FIRST(r) introduces new program for FIRST teams to raise funds and protect the env.

FIRST® is pleased to announce an exciting, new program that will directly help FIRST teams raise funds and protect the environment.

The FIRST®Green e-watt saver Program will enable FIRST teams, beginning with high-school teams in the U.S., (expansion internationally and to other programs is planned for the future), to sell a state-of-the-art, 7-watt LED light bulb that replaces the standard household light bulb. The LED bulbs are the latest in lighting technology with an average life of 10,000 hours. They utilize only 10 percent of the energy of traditional bulbs, with no mercury, so they may be disposed of without harming the environment. In addition to "doing good" for the environment, FIRST teams will be able to "do well" for the team with the potential to earn more than $15 per bulb. Think of the money your team can raise from 50 bulbs, 100 bulbs, or even more.

Here is how it will work:
·Beginning in early December, FIRST will provide high-school teams with materials explaining the technology and the process for teams to obtain the bulbs for distribution within their communities;
·Teams will be provided direction to an online resource to request marketing materials; and
· Each e-watt saver bulb will come in special FIRST packaging, so customers can immediately recognize that proceeds will support a FIRST team’s expenses.

Here is what we need you to begin doing now!
·First, organize your team and identify team members who will take the lead in this initiative;
·Stay tuned for additional information from FIRST, including additional information on the technology, and on the materials and resources that will be available to teams;
·Next, research LED lighting technology so that you are "up-to-speed" as soon as the product is available. There is a lot of information on the Web, as well as your local library; and
·Finally, identify who in your community would benefit from this technology.

PLEASE NOTE: FIRST does not advocate going door-to-door, so consider friends, family, events at school and local businesses.

Learn more about the e-watt saver program as well as specifications about e-watt saver, the product, and its benefits.

Feel free to share this opportunity with other team members, Coaches/Mentors, and the entire FIRST community!

Go Teams!

So they finally officially announced it?

Guess the post from Engadget was true:

This could definitely help out our FRC and FTC team.
