Has anyone been able to find a definite answer as to whether or not Victors will be allowed this year? The manual doesn't say and I can't get the KoP list to see if they included any. The IFI List of FRC Legal VEX components does not have Victors on it. It'll be a big disappointment if we have to use Jaguars for everything this year, and mean we can use our big pile of Victors from years past.

Re: Victors gone in 2011?
Victors are included in the Rookie Kit and legal for 2011 FRC.
Can be purchased here: http://www.vexrobotics.com/products/...ontroller.html Last edited by Ricky Q. : 08-01-2011 at 16:15. |

Re: Victors gone in 2011?
Nothing in the rules--there are references to Jaguars and "approved speed controllers" in the manual. Is there a Victor in the KOP?

Re: Victors gone in 2011?
I have the official KOP from the FIRST website. I can confirm that the victor 884's are on the KOP. Vetern teams will not be getting any victor 884's this year concluding to the "Rookie-Vet Kit Differences.pdf".

Re: Victors gone in 2011?
Wouldn't this cover it? Since Victors were in the kit in the past, and they aren't specifically prohibited.

The KoP list provided by someone else on ChiefDelphi with pictures on a spreadsheet appears to contain a victor in it, can't verify currently but I am pretty sure. So victors should be allowed

Re: Victors gone in 2011?
It's important to note that the only ways to know if something is legal are the game manual and official Q&A, and that you can't rely on what IFI or anyone else may claim. I think it's safe to presume that Victors are legal since they're in the kit (Items in the rookie kit are legally considered kit items for everybody even though veterans don't actually get them), though, and hopefully this will get officially cleared up soon.
The rules for relays seem to be equally as unspecified. Adding to the confusion, rules <R39.B> and <R39.D> about them appear to be redundant. The box below <R39> is also confusing regarding using Spikes in custom circuits (with their built in 20-amp fuse or breaker), but since it looks to be just a reminder that smaller fuses/breakers are okay downstream of the PD and not a prohibition of same-sized/larger ones, I don't think there's a problem. |

Re: Victors gone in 2011?
<R27> Robots entered into the 2011 FRC shall be fabricated and/or assembled from COMPONENTS, MECHANISMS and COTS items that are constructed from:
A. Items provided in the KOP (or their exact REPLACEMENT PART) Please note that there are specific rules as to how a team must account for costing of these items on the BOM. |

Re: Victors gone in 2011?
Since the Victors are definitely in the 2011 KOP, the Victors are legal this year.
BTW, IFI donated 1 Victor for each rookie kit in case you were wondering. |

Re: Victors gone in 2011?
I think Victors have always been allowable. FIRST Team 148 uses Victors exclusively and always has (for obvious reasons). My question is - are both read and blue label 884s allowed?

Re: Victors gone in 2011?
Keith,
You are really going back aren't you? The label difference came at a time that IFI was in transition. In that season there was a lot of misinformation floating around and we were told at one point not to allow one color on the robot. It caused significant stress for teams and inspectors. After speaking at length with one of the IFI reps (pre FTA) at a regional, I found that there is no difference between the two other than one has the old label and the other has the new. However, those old ones may be pre-conformal coating. I would open them and clean them to be sure they haven't picked up any stray metal that doesn't belong. Also check that the fans are still working without noise or vibration. The fan on the Victor is as essential as the one inside the Jag. |
