Arm

Hi, I'm a first year member of Team 1884, which is one of the few robotics team operating from in the UK. I was wondering if anybody has any good ideas for the arm of a robot, since I am having trouble thinking of any. I work specifically in the build and design area, and we are currently working on designing one. Thank you.

Re: Arm

Welcome to FIRST and to Chief Delphi.

A good place to look for ideas is in the CD-Media section. Look at 2007 robots, because 2007 was also a tube pick-up challenge. There were also good manipulators in 2005, for picking up tetrahedrals.

Re: Arm

Hi there, I'm not sure if your team was around for the 2007 game Rack n' Roll, this year's game is very similar.

I would like to recommend this book to you:
FIRST Robots: Rack 'N' Roll: Behind the Design (FIRST Robots: Behind the Design)

Which Can be found here:
http://www.amazon.com/FIRST-Robots-R...4692313&sr=1-2

I did not know of this book myself until this year, one of the other mentors on my team, 1640, showed this to me and it was just full of wonderful designs.

If you do happen to buy it I hope it inspires you to make something great.

Re: Arm

Thanks for the ideas, but does anyone have any specific ideas for the arms, or places where I could find them?

Re: Arm

You might also consider watching the design video mentioned during kickoff, found here. It covers a similar design challenge to the one we have now
