Team 610 - The Other Other Canadian Team

Watch Team 610's Highlight Video

Hello CD!

Team 610 - The Coyotes from Toronto, Ontario will be making a return the Championships after a several year hiatus. As a team who has traditionally tried to earn their way to Champs by winning an event or qualifying award, we finally broke down this year, and pre-registered.

Thank goodness we did!

Canada is evolving as one of the most competitive and difficult regions to qualify out of. 1114 and 2056 are absolutely amazing teams who year-after-year show exactly why they are among the best teams in the world. Believe us, we know - in two regionals, we've played against 1114 and/or 2056 in 9 of our matches so far this season!

However, despite the stiff competition, I think you can understand why we're really happy with our 22-11-5 record. In order to be the best, you have to beat the best, and we're thankful for that opportunity right here at home. Although we weren't able to win a regional this year, we still think we can definitely hang a few (uber)tubes, and deploy a minibot with the best out there!

See you all on Galileo!

That's a great looking robot! I love how it auto-corrects the tube as it arms rotates over the top. I look forward to seeing you on Galileo!

Re: Team 610 - The Other Other Canadian Team

Rightfully so 1114 and 2056 gets all the attention of the teams from Canada, but there are so many good teams up here that are going to do great things at the championship. I believe this is the year that we see more then 2 Canadian teams on Einstein, The level of competition in Canada on the same level as Michigan and California. Here are some Canadian teams that are going to surprise people at Champs:

- 610, best year yet, double regional finalists, great telescoping arm with roller claw and pnumatic release, strong drive train, and consistant minibot. Beast.
- 781, best year in a while, first regional win since 2002. very simple and effective design, good tubber, and fast and consistant minibot.
- 1503, simple arm that feeds from the human player and can put up 6+ tubes a match. Fast drive train and good driver, fast minibot with consistant deployment. Another 2 great regional wins teaming up with 1114.
- 1334, simple elevator design with wide gripper. Another very competitive robot from the red devils, regional finalist at GTR West.
- 188, telescoping arm with roller claw. Not as successful as the last two years on the regional level, but if they can get the bugs worked out they have to potential to make noise in St. Louis.
- 2702, regional Winner in Wisconsin.
- 2809 (plug for my team ) Regional Finalist in New York with out minibot deployment, we can consistently put up tubes and have a rebuilt minibot deployment and minibot for St. Louis.

Those are just the highlights I could think of, there are 18 Canadian teams making the trip to St. Louis and we should continue to show that we have some of the most competative teams in the world.

What is it with Canadian teams and Pirates of the Caribbean music?

I remember your 07 robot from BAE that year, it looks like you've made another nice robot. Good luck on Galileo

Re: Team 610 - The Other Other Canadian Team

You Canadians don't give yourself enough credit. While 1114 and 2056 are great, the majority of us also know a fair amount about the "other" Canadian teams.

610's robots are even more consistent in recent years, this year's is a great example of that. 09 still being my favorite.

Other good Canadian teams include 854, 1241, 1547, 188, 1075, 1503, 2609, 1305, 1310.

Don't think that we don't know who you all are!

Re: Team 610 - The Other Other Canadian Team

haha thanks for the kind words, speaking for myself, I guess we feel overshadowed by 1114 and 2056. I just wanted to make sure that people are aware of our other great Canadian teams, and that we are coming for yea .

But I would also say that the largest factor why we have so many high quality teams up here is because of the fact that we compete against two of the best teams in the world every year, and are inspired more every year to step our game up and create great robots to compete against them.

I know my team is also excited to play against the likes of 148, 233, 16, 25, 27, 79, 179... ect in Newton.

Re: Team 610 - The Other Other Canadian Team

It's been a really great year for Canadian teams:

1114 and 2056 have been outright dominant - even more so than in the past. Many of my colleagues have noted that even though the other teams in the area have stepped it up, we have never seen this duo perform at a level so much higher than the rest of the field. They are scary good... be afraid.

1503 has surprised many with their lack of ground pick-up, but easily has one of the fastest, most efficient, well-practiced and reliable robots in all of FIRST. Ground pick-up or not, this team puts up a lot of points - end of story.

781 has really established themselves as a serious force this year, and I think you can safely predict that they will cause some serious noise on Archimedes. I really like what this team has done this year, and will be trying to follow them as much as possible through Champs. They were picked before us at both our regionals, and for very good reason.

My two Canadian darkhorses this year are definitely 2809, and 188. Although you can't really ever call 188 a darkhorse... good robot or bad, they always seem to find a way to win. But both teams can score tubes at a deadly rate, but still haven't seemed to dial everything in to perform consistently every match. The timing seems right for both these teams to put it all together in St. Louis, and I'm betting that they both do.

Wink Re: Team 610 - The Other Other Canadian Team

In Pittsburgh 4 Canadian teams attended the regional. 3/4 teams were in the top 8 (1114 1st, 772 3rd, and 1503 5th) This shows how well the canadian teams can do compaired american teams, we(canadians) are mostly amazing teams but we sometimes dont get the chance to win a regional be cause we are against world leaders (1114 and 2056). Keep it up Canada!!

Re: Team 610 - The Other Other Canadian Team

@Akash: Thanks for the kind words, thats one of the first times 1075's been included on a list like that, and I like to think its because of the team's huge push for excellence this year.

@JNo:

I agree, the Canadian 2nd tier (everyone who's decent but not 1114/2056) is chock full of darkhorses that are relatively unknown outside of Canada because we all get hidden in the shadow of the 2 goliaths.

We're all improving our game every year because we're trying to keep pace with 1114/2056. In 5 years, nobody has managed to unseat the pair as #1 seeded champions at any of the Canadian regionals, but many teams, and especially so in 2011, have stepped up their game big time, and gotten relatively little recognition for it on a global scale.

610, 188, 1075, 1305, 1334, 1241, 781, 772, 907, 3117, 2702, 2809, 1310 and more all had robots capable of winning at less competitive regionals, but were crushed by the overbearing power of the NiagaraFIRST alliance.

Between the two GTR events this year, there were a total 71 teams combined, 15 teams with OPR > 20, 8 with OPR > 30, 7 with OPR > 35. Compare to WA and WA2 (a similar setup, 100 teams present combined, 8 teams total with OPR > 20, 2 with OPR > 30, 0 with OPR > 35)

WA and WA2 had nearly 50% more teams than ON and ON2, and had far less at the top end. Any of the top 15 in Canada could have gone to WA or WA2 and been in serious contention for the win.

Would love to see Canadian teams in Seattle!

Trobotics 1346 did not attend WA/WA2 this year... I'm hoping for a comeback soon.
