An idea for next year

As a means of spreading the word, I was thinking a spot in next year's 'Monday after the competition' sports section of USA Today would be a cool place to feature the results of the nationals.
I am calling the USA Today to see if they would be interested in doing an article. As a plan B, I was thinking we could put an advertisement in the sports section that looked like a regular USA Today sports article the day after next year's nationals. So I went to their site and got the pricing.

We have the skills to do an article, but the money is a bit steep. The USA Today is targeted at business people and is nationally circulated.

Since we couldn't put the money to this, I thought I'd put the idea up and see where it goes.

BLACK AND WHITE
Size Mon-Thurs. Friday
Spread $130,000 $156,000
Half Spread $78,000 $93,600
Full Page $65,000 $78,000
2/3 Page $51,900 $62,300
1/2 Page $42,200 $50,600
1/3 Page $32,500 $39,000
1/4 Page $26,000 $31,200
1/6 Page $19,000 $22,800
1/8 Page $15,000 $18,000
1/9 Page $13,700 $16,400
1/12 Page $11,000 $13,200
1/16 Page $8,600 $10,300
Strip $19,300 $23,200

GEEEZ! For the price of a 1/16th page ad you could just about send a school
to a regional.
Getting the paper to write an article would be fantastic.
Can we all e-mail, write them and ask where the results were listed in
Sunday's paper? If they think there's an interest, would they make
the effort?

Sending an email to USA Today is a great idea. It's outrageous to think we would have to take out an ad to get coverage of such an important event! I'm sending my email today.

I'd like to suggest paramutual betting windows and handicapping at the nationals
as a way to pay for the sports coverage???

Can you see it .....off puck betting parlors in every state....
The national in Vegas....the papers will come begging....hey Tyson
killed boxing with non-gracious professionalism...we could fill the void..

Anybody got mob connections....could the mob sponsor a team?...I'd
hate to knock them off (the puck).

Smile

Mike Bastoni
