Are you referring to Autodesk Inventor 2011?

Ok, there is the 'autodesk student' account and 'autodesk' account. They are not linked, at least not for me, so you'll need to get a 'autodesk' account to actually register your product.

No I wasn't talking about Inventor I was talking about the CAD program that you can download from the website
http://www.ptc.com/appserver/mkt/edu...&icg_dbkey=851
I guess it was a PTC download.

Oh right..

PTC licenses are a pain to get.. as far as i know, you'll need a mentor to do it.

Re: CAD program from FRC...

Have you already CAD'ed something already with PTC? If not try to get a Solidworks student licens or just pop in the autodesk that came in your kit. Both are great programs and they are the most used programs out there and if your downloading parts use Solidworks or Autodesk.

Truth, Autodesk and Solidworks are the industry leaders. It's probably best if you become acquainted with them first.

Re: CAD program from FRC...

The PTC software is just Pro E re-branded as Creo. Never used it myself but it shouldn't be that hard to get a license (our sister team uses it as their CAD program of choice and they never had any problems). If not just use the trail version (hopefully it has one) and you can work on getting the proper license later.

Also as an alternative both Autodesk 2011 (my teams CAD program) and Solidworks are available to FRC teams for free in addition to Creo

It is true that both Autodesk and Solidworks are more popular. However, Pro E (Now Creo) is used in industry also, Caterpillar (my teams sponser) uses Pro E. So it isn't bad learn Pro E. Plus if you know one CAD program well it isn't that hard to adjust to another one.

Re: CAD program from FRC...

I do not like the ProE UI..

We've spent like.. more than a month setting up a network license for PTC..

Inventor is better in my opinion.

Re: CAD program from FRC...

I tried the link to the student.autocad and it asks for my account name and password. Doesn't take them and says they are invalid yet if I then try to create a new account both the account name and the email address are taken.

Where can I get autodesk inventor? None of the links I've tried work. The links in their email just let me select either the 32 bit or 64 bit inventor then go round and round and round with no download.
