other robotics competitions similar to FRC

ive seen a lot of VEX- (eg BEST, botball) sized comps, but nothing on the scale of FRC

is there anything else similar to FRC anywhere?

Not in terms of size and scale. FRC robots are file-cabinet sized or so. FTC and FLL robots fit into file cabinets rather easily.

Collegiate FIRST should be kind of similar to FRC in terms of scale and complexity, when it gets going. Not quite sure about sheer size, but then again flying devices need to be smallish if they're for indoor use.

Oh, and there's always Battlebots. (AKA the #1 most common point of reference for the uninitiated.)
