Talking The Marketing Of FIRST

Our team is divided into sub-teams,
Mechanical, and etc.

I help lead a group of students in the Marketing sub-team.
We come up with cool ideas to get our name out there, set up times to be in parades, fundraising opportunities, and yes we make buttons XD

As of now we are 2 weeks into the season and we are running out of stuff to do, so I am open to suggestions.

Reply with any input XD

Re: The Marketing Of FIRST

Our team has an antenna "sweat shop" where we make hundreds of antenna. A great way to "get your name out there" is to develop and distribute a little give-a-way that’s unique to your team. Our antennas are very recognizable and we put them everywhere! We are also the only team that has won the Imagery Award twice at Worlds. I suspect that there is a strong correlation as we have made our antenna a large part of our team image.

Good Luck, Bryan

Re: The Marketing Of FIRST

Your marketing dept is more than just buttons. It is what will define the image of your team.

Some of the things they should be doing are:

Making brochures that describe who your team is for potential sponsors and another one for potential recruits.

They need to be writing press release for the media in your town, introducing the team and invited them to whatever regional you are going to. You also need to follow up with how your team did at the competitions

They need to come up with a sponsor packet which should include: an intro to your team, a mission statement, some facts about your team and FIRST, Sponsorship levels, a business plan and other needs, ie: Mentors, free food, in kind donations.and a schedule of all your events.

They need to send invitations to all your local, state and national representatives for the Regionals and include a brochure explaining who you are

They need to come up with a great pit design that shows your teams personality

They need to be working on the chairmans award and the woodie flowers award

When the time gets closer they need to have a robot trading card with a pic of the bot on the front and all the stats on the back to hand out at Regionals.

They need to work on packets to hand out to judges with all the pertinent info about your team: include your business plan, a copy of your chairmans award essay, a list of any outreach events you have participated in, a list of any teams you mentor, your brochure, your robot card, your team handbook, your sponsor pack, an explanation of your design process and anything else you can think of.

You need to make sure your t-shirt design, your pit, your robot, your spirit supplies and anything else associated with the team works together to show the personality of your team.

Thats all I can think of for now, but give me a few days! And PM me if you need any help.

YIKES!

This is one of the reasons that Exploding Bacon has a reputation as a team that never sleeps!

Great list, Wendymom!

Wendy, this would make a great one-page handout to put on NEMO. Thank about it.
