cRIO Total Power Consumption

I can't seem to located a spec sheet on the cRIO 24VDC power consumption. We'd like to use the dedicated 24 VDC power from the power distribution panel to power 24 VDC to the pneumatic bumper for some valves.

Knowing the power board can produce about 1.5 Amps of 24 vdc, we also need to know how much of that 1.5 Amps does the cRIO need to determine what is the available power left for the pneumatic bumper power header.

Does anyone have the cRIO FLA or Amperage draw on the 24 vdc?

The operating instructions list the maximum power as 20W.

Thanks Joe. That's what I was looking for.

Wow. 0.83 Amps just for the cRIO...not much left over to run some valves. Better stick with 12 VDC coils or use a custom circuit to make more 24 Vdc available.

I probably would not recommend the 2011 shown connection of the pneumatic bumper to the 24 VDC power board then, there just isn't enough amperage to run some valves, barely one valve if any depending on valve coil wattage.

The FESTO valve solenoids (KOP) barely draw 40mA @ 24V. We ran three of them, six control lines from the pneumatic bumper last year without problems. The cRIO and the four carts draws only 0.7A during normal operation.

Chris,
There is enough current reserve to run one 24 volt solenoid module with eight solenoid outputs and also feed line sensors. I would question a custom regulator designed to supply power to anything other than a custom circuit. That is one for the Q&A.

Having the brain and switching loads is not very good design. Make sure that all solenoid coils have the diodes.

Chris -

The 20W spec is a rated absolute maximum, and represents a fully loaded chassis with each module drawing maximum power and the processor etc going full bore. We don't see that type of load in FRC.

I am confident in the 24V rail's ability to supply both the cRIO and one fully populated solenoid breakout module.
