Sometimes the GDC doesn't invoke the 217 rule for field pieces. Some years they simply run out, this year they forgot that Paul and company played with Lincoln logs well into high school and love to stack em high.

While they may just look like red tetras, 217 has just opened up a portal to an alternate dimension. Unfortunately, this portal would only last another 23 seconds, plus the time it took for field reset to take the tetras down.
