You access the buttons from a Joystick Get. It's done the same way as the axes. right-click on the buttons output node, choose
Cluster, Class, & Variant Palette ->
Unbundle by Name. place the icon you get and wire it to the buttons node on the Joystick Get.
You should see "Button 1".
Expand the box the see more of the buttons, or use the hand to switch to a different button.

Yes, the D-Link you got in the Kit can be used this way.
You just need to keep all the IP addresses in the same 10.xx.yy.zz range.
