Re: Driver tests 1

Looks like, particularly with some practice, you have some valid driving talent! :-)

I love how the walls are lined with tables... makes it harder to dent the walls! ;-) Although the obstacle course is good, I might encourage doing some "lining up" tests... FRC driving is rarely doing figure-eights, but more often quickly acquiring a game piece, driving around an obstacle or two, then scoring. I don't have great recommendations for how to better evaluate those particular skills without an arm, but something to think about. Best of luck!

Dent? Who dents walls? We smash right through our walls (With the corner of our bumpers last year)! True story.

Sweet drivebase, and nice driving. No mech this year?

Re: Driver tests 1

We once drove through a classroom wall. I'm pretty sure that was around when the school decided to put us underneath the parking lot.

Anyways, don't forget that driving isn't just about the maneuvering. Our driver read The Art of War and The Book of Five Rings, in addition to some other materials, in preparation for some of his first tournaments. He has since succeeded to the point where both are now required reading material for new driver recruits on our team.

Re: Driver tests 1

Hmm, I may take up on your advice. Though I didn't know there were a lot of people who did not read The Art of War and need to be recommended or required.

Re: Driver tests 1

I think that is a great way to test out the potential drivers capabilities. From the video, the two students that stood out to me are the first driver, John, and Hugo. Good luck to all of your students and your team this year!
