WPIlib SmartDashboard class & viewer

On page 75 and 76 of the WPI Robitics User's Guide is a description of the WPIlib SmartDashboard class and functionality that we'd like to use.

What we can't find is the .jar file for the SmartDashboard viewer that is mentioned in the Readme (attached) document authored by Paul Malmsten.

Anyone know where the viewer software is located?

Thanks,

Dan

Re: WPIlib SmartDashboard class & viewer

Paul got back to me with this answer.

To find the client, see the "File Releases" section of the project page: http://firstforge.wpi.edu/sf/projects/smartdashboard

That is also the location to watch for new releases and information about the dashboard and an update is in the wings.

Also, you might want to try the ZomB dashboard. It has many features that the SmartDashboard does not (and live listening is coming soon)

Re: WPIlib SmartDashboard class & viewer

But SmartDashboard also has the benefits of being extremely simple to use and add (just a couple of lines), supports "fire-and-forget", so you can just add a single line to your robot code and it will automatically appear on the dashboard, without rebuilding it, and being built in to WPIlib.

Re: WPIlib SmartDashboard class & viewer

Sounds like the smart dashboard people and the ZomB dashboard people should combine their efforts and make one even better dashboard system.

Re: WPIlib SmartDashboard class & viewer

Unfortunately, the clients are written differently, so it would be difficult, though not impossible. SmartDashboard is written in Java, and ZomB is written in C#.

Where exactly is this User guide? Because the only one I can find is the 2010 version, which only has 72 pages.
