Is it possible to connect two CIM FR801-001 motors to one jaguar?

For our robot arm, we have to connect two CIM FR801-001 motors to one jaguar because of the weight of the arm. IS this going to be a problem for the jaguar?

It may or may not be a problem for a jaguar. However, you should read <R42>.

While it is theoretically possible, it is strictly forbidden in the rules.
Only one motor per controller is allowed.

Bummer, Joe beat me to it.

<R42> Each power-regulating device (speed controller or relay module) shall control one and only
one electrical load (motor, actuator, light or compressor).
Exception: Multiple low-load, pneumatic solenoid valves or lights may be connected to a single
relay module. This would allow one relay module to drive multiple pneumatic actions or multiple
lights. No other electrical load can be connected to a relay module used in this manner.
Not allowed, though it would probably work for a short period of time.

and in any case, if it is heavy enough to require two CIMs, it will probably trip a 40a breaker at max load. JUST DONT DO IT MAN!

Re: Is it possible to connect two CIM FR801-001 motors to one jaguar?

If both CIMs need to spin in the same direction (if your wiring distances are equal to the jaguars controlling the cim) you could use a Y splitter cable to give them the same exact PWM signal at all times.

Re: Is it possible to connect two CIM FR801-001 motors to one jaguar?

Thank you all for gracious professionalism . It is my first/last year (senior year) in Robotics.

Another question: Is there a limit to how many jaguars/victors you can use for the robot?

As long as you stay in the robot weight, cost, volume, and number of available PWM ports constraints, you may use as many as you like.

Am I the only one concerned that 2 CIMS seems to be major overkill for an arm in this game? If you really need 2 CIMS for driving an arm then I think your gear ratrios are way out of whack. Either that or you have a really unusual arm design.

A single FP should be more than enough for a reasonable arm this year. SO even if you get your Jaguar connected I still forsee problems down the road.
