Drive Delay

Howdy,
We are experiencing a noticeable delay when the drive motors are engaged. There is a noticeable delay between changing the joystick and the response on the motors. For example, push forward on the drive joystick and a second later the motors drive forward; release the joystick and a second later the motors slow and stop.

We are using LabView and the standard 4-motor with CAN drive vi.

I can make several guesses why this might be happening, but I wanted to ask others to see if they were experiencing a similar issue.

Thanks for the help,
...Duane

Re: Drive Delay

When control lag like that happens to us, it has usually seemed to be related to the processing load on the computer we're using to host the Driver Station software. It never happens with a Classmate logged in as Driver. It happens on rare occasion when logged in as Developer. It happens often enough to be annoying when we're using the programming computer with lots of LabVIEW front panels open.

For completeness, I don't think I've ever seen it happen with one of the old QuickByte Driver Stations.

Re: Drive Delay

I've seen this happen a few different ways, but the most common is when you have a timeout issue with your camera. If you are using your camera, make sure that the led ring on the front is green. If you aren't using your camera, disable vision on the Robot Main.vi front panel.

If this doesn't fix your problem, can you post your code?

Re: Drive Delay

Just to double-check, since we are in the CAN forum:
Are you using speed mode?
If so, what are your PID gains?
