Human Players- Scoring?

I'm sure we've all seen the amazing 118 video by now in which their human player scores a square from the player station across the field. After having watched the human players in week 1 (I didn't get to see 118's in action), do you feel it is plausible or even possible for a human player to score during a match this year?

Being a human player, I've maintained that a lucky bounce from a circle could easily score on the bottom row and considering the number of circles I saw thrown in week 1, I still think it could happen.

Even though scoring on the bottom row would be nearly insignificant in most of the matches, it would still be an awesome occurrence. If anyone is able to catch this amazing feat on video if/when it happens, I'd love to see it.

Any other observations about human players thus far are also appreciated.

Re: Human Players- Scoring?

after watching the NJ regional yesterday, I noticed that many of the human players were just tossing them into the middle of the field in the order of the first logo (triangle, circle square). In some cases though this was making it much easier for the opposing alliance to pick up tubes that were meant for the other team and easily scoring them, thus making it almost impossible for the faster alliance to lose the match, and minimizing any robot interaction. Although I cant think of a better alternative, I really dont like that strategy

Re: Human Players- Scoring?

The rules state that the Human Player "Feeder" will feed game pieces to the robots but never states that they are allowed to score. In fact Section 1 of the Game Manual states the following that states that robots will place the pieces on the grid...

From section 1:

SCORING GRID (GRID) – used to receive GAME PIECES placed by the ROBOTS as they play LOGO MOTION. There are four SCORING GRIDS on the FIELD, two located immediately in front of each ALLIANCE STATION and attached to the ALLIANCE WALL

This makes it so Human Players can not score just robots.

Re: Human Players- Scoring?

Personally I don't think there will be any scoring from a human player. With the distance and other robots in the way it would be very hard. Also I don't even know why human players are throwing them it makes driving hard and gives your opponent a better faster chance to score. Maybe in a very lucky chance it might happen, but i don't we'll see it in 2011

My personal view of the rules is that since no rule specifically states human players are not allowed to score, then they are allowed to. The refs just look at the pegs at the end of the game and if one of the tubes happens to be scored by a human player, what is the difference?

I know I can throw the tubes (especially the circles) into the scoring zone most of the time during practice, so I think at least one human player somewhere in the world could get lucky.

Re: Human Players- Scoring?

If you watched any of alamo you can tell that 148 told their alliance partners to block the other alliance while they had the human players throwing the tubes almost all the way down the field, that being said i see the possiblity of a human player getting a tube to land or bounce onto the rack. This probably wont happen until the later weeks when people start to perfect their throwing style.

Re: Human Players- Scoring?

We did see a human player get a ringer on one of the minibot poles at FLR...

The Field Reset crew had to love that

Re: Human Players- Scoring?

Possible? Yes
Probable, or even a reasonable strategy? No.

But a good thrower can make a HUGE difference. Having the right tube almost on the yellow line for the whole match saves a lot of time and virtually nullifies any possible defense.

Re: Human Players- Scoring?

1126's human player de-scored one of our squares at FLR, though the refs didn't call it, since we were still pulling back from scoring it. Was funny though.

Re: Human Players- Scoring?

1126 was lucky the ref didn't see it since that falls under G39:

<G39> ROBOTS and FEEDERS may not SCORE on their opponent's PEGS or descore their opponent‟s GAME PIECES, or interfere with their opponent‟s TOWERS. Violation: PENALTY plus RED CARD.
