Re: 2011 New Jersey Regional

Thank you everyone for all the great comments.. It has been a fun year and a good start for us, I am really proud of the students and all the mentors. They put in a lot of time and effort into this and it seems to have paid off.

I hope to see many of the teams from here again in St. Louis Good luck rest of the season.

Sure Cass. What I find is that teams tend to hold many more seats than they could fill, often in prime locations, shutting out visitors who won't be there later anyway. Holding 3 rows for a team with 50 students isn't a real problem, holding a dozen rows might be. Not to mention: The teams have the advantage of persistence. They can wait a short while and get the seats they might need without resorting to 'saving' them.

I was furious when my own team 1676 started saving seats on Saturday morning. I made my point with the well-intentioned adults leading the way. Indeed, we ultimately filled an entire section, well over 140 seats, and overflowed into whatever was available nearby.

Poking around backstage uncovered some inflation gauges issued by FIRST. So there tubes were within official spec. Teams take note!

It looked like their drive team did not have the experience driving like we've seen in past years. A careful review of matches shows that their drivers steadily improved their technique as the day went on, and by Saturday they were back to awesome. Nest stop: Virginia, with 11, 75 and us.

You are most welcome. WE in turn are grateful to the NJ Regional Committee for allowing this, and NASA for the CPU cycles and connection.

BTW, all was archived and TBA will have it soon enough.

The thanks goes to your team. They performed well enough on Friday to earn that pick. And you went ahead and proved us right in elims.

I should start a thread to explain our process for picking which teams we pick.

We were with you in your first qualification match, against 25. One of your mentors came over for the usual pre-match meeting and when he found out that we had major drive problems (couldn't turn, at all) he got us up and running.

Although, there were more problems with it that we didn't find until it was too late (two matches to go, that late). After we got that fixed we were doing great but two matches aren't much.

I didn't get his name but he was awesome.

Can't wait to see the matches up on TBA!

I was wondering why you said thanks as well. You are welcome. Thank you for your help in that match. It was a rough one.

Re: 2011 New Jersey Regional

We would like to thank a few teams for making the New Jersey Regional another great competition. First off we would like to congratulate teams 1676, 2016, and 303. And yet again 2016 for winning chairmans!
We would like to also thank teams that helped us. 2016, thank you so much for everything you gave us through out the build season. Teams 816 and 1218, thank you for the parts you provided at the regional. We would like to thank teams 1647 and 1676 for letting us use your mini bots and spending countless hours making it work.
We hope to see you all in St. Louis!

Re: 2011 New Jersey Regional

I forgot to mention in my last post, thank you to 1676 for picking us as the first pick. It was a great pleasure to play with you guys and had an absolute blast.

Also 303 you guys did a great job in the final round when our gripper failed and i know it wasnt as planned originally and a sudden change in strategy... but it was fun.

*EDIT* - I meant there should never have been a switch on our part 303 did a great job in the transition)

I want to thank 1089, 1647 and 102 for a great finals, and providing us with some awesome matches to watch in the semifinals

I finally understood better this year the amount of time and effort that all the volunteers put in to make this event happen, as well as all the members that plan this event and I want to thank all the people for making this event a great success and for being a week 1 event making it flow as smoothly as they do.

Thanks again all!!

Thank you guys for being a great part of our alliance. Congratulations on Chairman's Award. From my knowledge as to what you guys do, you guys deserved that award. Good luck in DC!

No problem. I hope you guys can use your knowledge to improve the minibot as well as deployment. I would love to see you guys in St. Louis. Your robot is incredible, and is certainly worthy of performing in St. Louis.

That kind of surprises me considering they could probably start practicing with their 07 robot from kickoff.

And congrats to 303,1676 and especially 2016. Your team has really reached another level over these last 2 years and it was amazing to watch you guys in action.

The issues 25 had were more involved with minibot/deployment. The robot seemed to be driven well, at least to me.

Actually, I thought 303 and 2016 did a great job adjusting in the last finals match. 303 put up several game tubes while 2016 played exceptional defense. Overall, the alliance did great real time adjustments.

I didn't get to see them in action early on. I thought their driving was very good but from what people were saying it seemed like they weren't at the same level earlier.

Actually these drivers never drove the 07 bot
And we never had time to even test the deployment system before Thursday morning

It just came down not enough time

Overall losing was the best thing for our team because it taught us valuable lessons and brought a few folks down to earth and losing to our friends and past partners was not a bad feeling

In a month we take on VCU and I expect a much more formidable front. Gonna be fun

I completely agree with this. From the stands, the rest of 1676 was overcome with fear when they saw that something had gone wrong with 2016's claw, but we were ultimately blown away by what amazing defense they were able to play, along with 303's amazing abilities as well (recall that we lost last year's second final match due to a ball prematurely falling off the ball return system; we didn't want another thing to go wrong!). All in all, we would like to give a HUGE thanks to both teams, and congratulate everyone on a job well done, we couldn't have done it without you!
