Re: 2011 Traverse City District Event

Not trying to discredit The #1 alliance but if 141 made it to the very last pick. and if 910 got picked by #7 in the second round its safe to say teams had terrible scouting at this regional. In the selection teams "scouted" on rank alone, I say this because some teams that got picked didn't even have a functioning robot got picked over 141 and 910. I wonder how the event would have played out with decent scouting. Theres a reason #8 picks twice in a row, so the #1 alliance isn't stacked head to toe. I really want to know other peoples opinions on this.

Re: 2011 Traverse City District Event

On the contrary, 247, as always, has excellent scouting and was able to pick out a diamond in the rough in 910. Despite their ranking, they had a good robot and a good history and was a good pick to take.

Re: 2011 Traverse City District Event

That was an excellent pick in fact. I'm not saying 910 wasn't a good pick at all. I'm saying teams dropped the ball by letting good teams like 141 and 910 slip though the cracks. When teams don't scout they make the #1 seed practically unbeatable.

Re: 2011 Traverse City District Event

Kudos to Traverse City High School Administration for a great set-up! It was our first time there and we were very happy with the arrangements. They re-arranged their normal parking structure on Friday for the FiM Traverse City District competition. They had their students, who arrived later than the robotic teams, park in the farther lots and transported them at the start and end of the school day. It seemed to make a lot more sense to do it that way as most of the students arrived and left at the same time. They also arrived after and left before any robotic team members. Students, for the most part, do not need access to their vehicles as much through-out the day as some of the robotic teams do. It made things so much easier for the robotic teams.

The parking set-up made it more accessible for the visitors coming to view the competition. It also was not necessary to identify everyone in the school for the competition as the classrooms were secured from the robotic competition areas. The cafeteria was easily accessible (after their students ate, of course) and you were able to bring in your own food to accommodate those team members who could not eat their available selections. Because of this, we were able to have family and friends who live in the Traverse City area come visit, eat lunch and cheer us on during Friday's matches.

And, having chairs with backs along with bleachers was just 'icing on the cake', at least for us older individuals with weaker backs! Great job Traverse City Central High School!

Exactly.

Scouting is very important in FRC. Especially with the serpentine, any seed can win the regional based on the strength of its captain robot and the strength of its scouting.
