Human Modelling

Hmm, still trying to figure out how to model the hand.

Any thoughts, Chris?

Cool

I am not Chris but I remember we had to make a hand too, we gave up later when we saw a nice one online, but we found it easier to model from the palm out using both mesh edit and patch model. I can't remember exactly what we did but what I would suggest is take a sphere and mash it into a pancake shape, then mesh edit the sides with soft select. Then convert it into an editable patch and do a similar method for each of the fingers. After you have modeled everything, attach and then weld the vertexes together.

Uhh....I think hes using Nurbs, if im not mistaken that looks a lot like Rhino. Anyway, I cant really give you much advice as Ive only ever really modeled heads...hmmmm.....

This is tough...Im trying to think of ways to do it and make it fit the fingers well but im having little luck. I'll get back to you once I've played with rhino a bit.

Well, I gave him instructions for a new model, not for what he has done so far. But I never liked nurbs anyway so I couldn't help you any more, sorry.

Because you made the fingers before you made the palm, I think the model might not bend well when you attach the two together... Next time, I'd suggest modeling the fingers and palm together as one hand. My favorite way of making hands is to make a palm-shaped polygon, extrude it, extrude fingers and a thumb from that, and use poly-editing tools and meshsmooth to make it into a hand. I use meshsmooth for everything... It's not as sophisticated as NURBS, though.

You could also make the palm from modified copies of the spline on the end of the arm (if it is a spline), until it reaches the fingers, and then just weld verticies to get the fingers attached. If you weld carefully, they should bend well enough.

Yes, this is rhino.

Here's the deal, I'm going to try to make the palm with nurbs then use a cutting tool to chop the areas where the fingers meet with it out. Then I'm going to use blends to make the palm attach to the fingers as well as the rest of the arm... If that doesn't work, I'll just start over and model the hand as one object.

And what's wrong with being different? I actually do want to try out rhino though, it looks really nice but I am not a big fan of nurbs so I don't know what to do.
