Can someone please tell me how FIRST would know when the minibot reaches the top what system are they using???? Just touch the top and that's it?

Re: Acknowledgment of minibot reaching top

At GSR last week they were having issues with the sensors, they would trip if a robot hit the base of the tower. So in the end they just watched the race and scored it manually.

A push sensor at the top - Whichever hits first gets 4 lights, second 3, third 2, fourth - 1.

Re: Acknowledgment of minibot reaching top

as the rules say, its supposed to take 5 newtons to trigger the sensor and then the tower signals the field controller which scores the order of finish and controls the lights on the top to show the crowd the results in real time.
At Trenton at least one of the towers was unreliable the whole time.
The judges did it by eye, with several disputed calls.
