Geardown on minibot motors?

Just wondering what geardowns have worked best for everyone so far. We have been using a 10.4:1 geardown, but are thinking about direct drive. Has anyone been successful using no transmission?
Thanks,
Michael

Would be curious to see the results of that...generally 3:1 can burn out motors pretty fast...

Re: Geardown on minibot motors?

As of right now, our direct drive minibot is our fastest one in testing (~2 sec)

He is referring to modifying the gear box from 52 to 1 to 10.4 to 1. The 10.4 to one works great, got us to under 2 sec. The key is the overall effective gearing which includes the wheel diameter as well as any gearing internal or external to the transmission.
