That's the easiest way to interpret the rule, but that's not actually what it says:

The robot can be touching the ubertube, as long as it has released the tube and isn't supporting it.

But if you let go, get caught on a peg or something lift your hand in tele op and say knock that tube off, it still counts. This happened to us and we thought we werent going to get the points because it got knocked off but they gave us the points. So as long as you hang it and stop touching it in autonomous you should be fine.

You still get the AUTONOMOUS SCORE for the ubertube, because it was scored at the end of the autonomous period. I don't see anywhere in the manual that you get the doubler for the PEG SCORE if the tube comes off after that.
