That's the easiest way to interpret the rule, but that's not actually what it says:

The robot can be touching the ubertube, as long as it has released the tube and isn't supporting it.

You still get the AUTONOMOUS SCORE for the ubertube, because it was scored at the end of the autonomous period. I don't see anywhere in the manual that you get the doubler for the PEG SCORE if the tube comes off after that.
