I'm going to have to say 40. They know how to run a match, and an alliance.

Re: Best Robot

Here's looking at it by OPR (these are just selected teams, I haven't run it for every regional)
1114 @ PIT: 62
111 @ WI: 58
33 @ Kettering: 56
148 @ STX: 56
987 @ SD: 55
217 @ FLR: 54
2056 @ FLR: 52
254 @ SD: 49
40 @ WPI: 40

It's not a perfect measurement (different regionals, different weeks, ignores eliminations), but it gives a nice mathematical ranking and correlates nicely with all the robots mentioned so far in the thread.

Imagine if 111 had a double-tube autonomous...

Re: Best Robot

I decided to just run it for all regionals. So here are the top 25 OPRs done so far. If a team is there twice, it means they've done two regionals and performed strongly at both (or my script was messed up, which it was. If a team is there twice with the same OPR, it means I double-counted them)
Code:
67	64.1978
1114	62.9768
111	58.752
2054	58.5124
2415	57.7935
234	57.0967
33	56.7075
148	56.5229

Most of the OPR data is based on one regional per team. Without a full statistical analysis (blocking data, etc.) and more data, the uncertainty in the OPR rankings must be pretty big. My guess +/- 15 points. I agree with a prior post, no one robot is standing out in a big way.

I partially agree with your assessment, but disagree on most of it.

Yes having other data such as blocking data and what not is useful, however its impossible to correlate that into a statistical analysis we can use across every competition.

OPR isn't the end all be all metric of a team's success, but this list has some pretty darn good robots on it so its valid in some sense.

As far as no one robot standing out in a big way, I have to disagree there. Look at 67 and 1114 both well into the 60s. The 3rd highest is 111 at 58 and then theres a steady decline from there. These 2 teams to me seem to be standing out in some degree above the rest. However, taking a team with say a 58 OPR and dropping them in the same competition as 67 or 1114 may result in either team's number fluctuating based on the equalized playing field.

Just my .02

Actually 67 has the highest with 64.1978. The Week 3 results will be out tonight at http://frctop25.com/ accompanied by the live broadcast revel at 10:30pm. 1114 has the top spot in both polls from W2.

Speaking of the FRC Top 25...

It's actually a more direct way to get the response, or submit your opinion. There are two polls, one expert and one not.

Re: Best Robot

Don't forget about Team 971. Due to budget constraints we don't get to play till week 5. All I can say is we have been watching, practicing, learning from all the mistakes, and making improvements in all areas we can think of. The robot is the best robot we have built so far. She's fast and smooth and has a few tricks up her sleeve

We play at SVR next week. Take a peak.

It the result of a moderately complex calculation. Essentially, your OPR is how many points your robot is expected to contribute to your alliance. So those top robots are expected to contribute about 60 points to an alliance's score. A more average robot this year is in the 5-10 point range. A negative score indicates your robot/team tends to take penalties or get in the way.

If you search for the oldest big thread that mentions it, it'll have the mathematical definition. If you find the "easy to use OPR" thread, that includes my program which can calculate it.
