Re: Best Robot
I assume that roughly 24 hours from now we won't have to imagine what that will look like?

Yes having other data such as blocking data and what not is useful, however its impossible to correlate that into a statistical analysis we can use across every competition. OPR isn't the end all be all metric of a team's success, but this list has some pretty darn good robots on it so its valid in some sense. As far as no one robot standing out in a big way, I have to disagree there. Look at 67 and 1114 both well into the 60s. The 3rd highest is 111 at 58 and then theres a steady decline from there. These 2 teams to me seem to be standing out in some degree above the rest. However, taking a team with say a 58 OPR and dropping them in the same competition as 67 or 1114 may result in either team's number fluctuating based on the equalized playing field. Re: Best Robot
I think this is a great thread, but something that has to be taken with a grain of salt. Many teams will improve drastically between their first competition and championships. Our team didn't even field a robot with our full capaibilites during the Detroit regional, and I am sure there are many teams that are in the same boat. Our drivers didn't have much practice before the regional, and as they practice and do more events they will get better...as will other drivers.
In my opinion 217, 148, and 1114 are the best up until now. 217 has won two events, so how can they not be included with 148 and 1114? My two cents. |

Re: Best Robot
Don't forget about Team 971. Due to budget constraints we don't get to play till week 5. All I can say is we have been watching, practicing, learning from all the mistakes, and making improvements in all areas we can think of. The robot is the best robot we have built so far. She's fast and smooth and has a few tricks up her sleeve
We play at SVR next week. Take a peak. |

Re: Best Robot
It the result of a moderately complex calculation. Essentially, your OPR is how many points your robot is expected to contribute to your alliance. So those top robots are expected to contribute about 60 points to an alliance's score. A more average robot this year is in the 5-10 point range. A negative score indicates your robot/team tends to take penalties or get in the way.
If you search for the oldest big thread that mentions it, it'll have the mathematical definition. If you find the "easy to use OPR" thread, that includes my program which can calculate it. Last edited by Bongle : 24-03-2011 at 20:03. |
