FIRST and deadlines

As I write this it's almost 6 pm EST, on Saturday the 16th. After checking the FIRST site again, I have realized that they have NOT posted the championship information as promised. I don't know what anyone else thinks, but it seems very unprofessional to me to miss your own deadline, especially after being this late. This year, if we're not done with our robots at the end of the 6wks, I wonder if we can just ship it out a little late...

I do agree that this should be moved to one of the other championship threads, but I will say this much...I am sure that FIRST fully intended, as they have said, to release the championship information on Thursday. However, with the change in venue which FIRST has confirmed, unexpected problems have come up in the planning for the new site. Rather than release incomplete information, then have to change it, upsetting the teams which would have already started making travel arrangements based on the announcement which had been made. Personally, I would rather have them hold off on the announcement rather than announce information that could possibly change.

Also, the date that FIRST announced was in no way a deadline for them. When they announced the date they would release championship information, it was based on when they thought the information would be available. It was not preset, saying "the information has to be out by this date, or else..." In fact, there is no such date set. So, it is somewhat incorrect to say that FIRST is "this late" in making the announcement. Rather, it can only be said that FIRST is later than in years past in making the announcement.
