Construction of the FIRST Award Trophies

I was looking at our Innovation in Control award and thinking it'd look really cool if it had some LED's lighting up the three transparent FIRST logo pillars. Has anyone ever been brave enough to disassemble one of these without damaging it? Or does someone know exactly how they are constructed (maybe a team that dropped it?)

Haha, when we first got ours this year, less than 30 minutes later one of the pieces came out.

A little bit of epoxy, and it was as good as new. The bottoms rest inside a flat area. You might be able to fit an LED in one, if you were to drill a hole in the clear piece on the bottom, and find a way to mount a LED.

our team did it, and the pillars come out easily. epoxy them back in if they come out.

We had the track team run through our trophy case (they practice inside in the winter). They broke an upwards of 15 awards and some were the old ones that are glass. The newer one's you can just epoxy.

To the team that pulled this off, it looks great! It would be awesome if all the awards looked like this.

I remember the old awards that were glass, and the old chairman's trophy and regional winner trophies, they were like 50 pounds and awesome, I wish they were all still like that, but we all have to deal with change.

yeah, it's nice but 2 of the LEDs burnt out from being wired sans resistor..

Re: Construction of the FIRST Award Trophies

Very cool. Would be nice to see the awards come this way officially, but I expect it would drive costs up too much.

As for not burning LEDs out, wire them up with the proper resistor, or get LEDs with internal resistors.

Re: Construction of the FIRST Award Trophies

i'll get that taken care of. the actual work was done by a non-electrical subsystem member (team captain).

What LED's were used for the above project? Curious to try with some I bought!
