Amazing, for the first few seconds I thought "why am I just watching a bird fly..." Then it hit me. Wow is all I can say about this one.

Re: Festo's done it again

The real question is ...
Can it detect my Husky crouching/creeping along in the grass, and if it can --
Can it take off in time?

Even on a dang leash, he catches unwitting critters....

Its surprising how its not only flying around and turning, but they are getting the 'bird' to hover in place as well.

Re: Festo's done it again

I saw this video a few days ago when one of our mentors brought it up. I was speechless when I saw the video. It's amazing! You can't even tell its a robot until you're very close to it. All other times, it looks just like a bird! I want one. Now.

I called it 2012 game. Wouldn't that be cool though having flying somehow in a challenge.

Re: Festo's done it again

Actually, given that we're allowed FOUR banebots motors this year, there's a good argument for building a quadcopter to pick up the tubes and place them on the rack. It'd be the absolute lightest overall mechanism out there (mainly because it'd HAVE to be in order to fly properly).

I suggested it, but the kids thought I was totally whacko. Heavy sigh.
Maybe I can convince them to try it this offseason. It's actually not that hard.

It sounds awesome. I like to think of controlling the arm as flying it anyway. How would you tether it to the main part of the bot so that it would not get tangled, would be able to fly freely, and not leave the 84 inch cylinder?
