Make Your Voices Heard! Write your Senator re FIRST and STEM!

B]Breaking news:[/b]
"US senators unveiled an initiative Monday to try to narrow the US gap with Asian nations more advanced in robotics, proposing exposing American high school students to a curriculum heavier on technology and science. Democrat Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire sponsored the plan calling for exposing students to heavier doses of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) seen as essential starting points on tracks to the better-paying jobs of the present and future."

Now is an exceedingly opportune time for all team members, mentors, educators, parents, volunteers, FIRST alums, etc to write/e-mail their US Senators to show support for this initiative. Let them know how important programs like FIRST are to your future and the future of our country. Tell them how much of a positive impact these programs make and have made on your lives.

BTW - The senator herself later took in the robotics demonstration and even steered one of the machines herself.

We can make a difference!

Re: Make Your Voices Heard!

This is great! Thanks for sharing! By the way, I noticed they mentioned FIRST teams. I'm hoping that we might get to hear a few stories from teams who were there. I will definitely write my Senator, and get as many people as I can to write, too.

Re: Make Your Voices Heard!

Here is the full press release. Who are the four teams mentioned in the press release? Whoever you are, thank-you so much!! Thank-you for stepping up during this busy time to become a positive force for all of FIRST.

Also, a big thank-you to the groups that endorse the Senator's legislation:

"The bill has been formally endorsed by SAIC, PTC, BAE, Autodesk, the New Hampshire School Administrators Association, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers."
