[FF]: Season Long Fantasy FIRST Proposal

EricH came up with an interesting idea that might make it possible to maintain players doing the season long league and not be at as high a risk of getting booted.
He had the idea of having teams of as many as three people participate and submit picks on behalf of that team. I think it would be cool to have a Winnovation team (my biggest participant) or Exploding Bacon or X-Cats (it's just me myself and I and that's cool too). Plus with three people watching over a team might lessen the possibility of the team getting booted for missing five consecutive drafts in a row and allow more people to play if they don't feel obligated too dedicate so much time to the draft if they can assign team members to certain drafts.
So What do you guys think?

Re: [FF]: Season Long Fantasy FIRST Proposal

Really, I think we could solve 90% of retention problems just by making all players reconfirm their participation before the draft starts.

I don't see the real point of teams.

Things come up. People forget. I think if there are three (maybe even four) people watching a team it's less likely to fall due to neglect.
Also if you don't like the idea, Chris, you should vote against it because I am using the poll to see if this is the direction I am going next year. If you don't vote your voice won't be heard.

Re: [FF]: Season Long Fantasy FIRST Proposal

As someone who stopped doing Fantasy FIRST, I think the current format (picking 3 teams per every event) is just too much for most people who don't know more than 5 or so teams per event. I personally don't have the time/willingness to do research on every event and thus I ended up getting a lot of random teams, which really isn't fun. If it was up to me, I would something like Fantasy Football, where you have 20 teams the entire year and you 'start' 5 each week. But, of course I'm not running Fantasy FIRST, but I hope to provide some persective (and a suggestion) as to why people drop out--just too much work to pick 3 teams for every event for the average participant.

I think this idea could help solve that problem, but it isn't perfect. What if there is only 1 person intersted on your team? What if people on the same team want to be seperate?

They can be their own entity if they so choose.

As long as the teams are optional, I'm fine with it. I don't need anybody riding my coattails to the top of the leaderboard

Does anyone else on your team even KNOW what Fantasy FIRST is?

From 3573? No, I have mentioned in passing a time or two, but probably not. I know there are a few 2175 members on CD including a mentor that definitely know about it, I doubt any would participate though.

No one on my team would bother with it either.

Re: [FF]: Season Long Fantasy FIRST Proposal

Would the Elgin Clock Award go to the Team's award mantle, or to the FF team captain?

I'll play by any rules Ed throws at me. I potentially see this as being a great opportunity to train Exploding Bacon's scouting team through a fun competition with other teams.

Re: [FF]: Season Long Fantasy FIRST Proposal

A little more about what I was thinking:

Teams could be anybody--if Barry wanted to bring in 1902, great, or if I wanted to bring along a couple other CDers (from different H.S. teams) who go to my school, just fine. Or if I want my team to be me, myself, and my secret picking tool, just fine.

The Elgin Clock would go to whoever won it, whether that was a team or an individual.

I think this is an excellent idea. The members of the winnovation group that participated last year were all too busy to participate individually this year unfortunately, but as a team the time required would be lessened and would make it much easier to participate.

Re: [FF]: Season Long Fantasy FIRST Proposal

I don't have anything against the idea, though I think even if 2337 members wanted to join (fairly likely), we'd want to do it separately. I don't mind teams joining in though.

Re: [FF]: Season Long Fantasy FIRST Proposal

I like this idea a lot. I signed up before years ago and I felt bad for constantly forgetting cause I got so tied up with school and getting all my stuff together since I was missing classes to go volunteer and mentor at regionals.

Plus it could perhaps put my scouting teams research skills and collected data from this year to the test.

Perhaps if someone wanted to do it individually, they can have the choice. It'll be interesting to see who comes out the victor, someone who really knows their teams or a team who pulls through together.

If we went for it, there would definitely be individuals allowed to play. Some of us are just insane like that.
