2011 Championship Chairman's Award Predictions

With a mere two weeks away, its about time to start sharing predictions about who will become the newest addition to the FIRST Hall of Fame.

Some interesting facts about this year's group:

- Of the 51 submitting teams, 22 of them are first-time CA winners.
- The average number of CAs this year's submitting group has is roughly 2.2-2.3.
- There are 18 teams below the 1000-number mark.
- The highest numbered team gunning for the gold is Team 3242. The lowest is Team 11.
- The team with the highest amount of CAs submitting at St. Louis this year is 503 with 8 and a Honorable Mention in 2006. The next two highest teams are 340 and 1108 with 6 each. 359, 1114, and 79 follow close behind with 5.

So, get pick'n and predict'n!

359 or 1114. I hate having to choose between the two

Re: 2011 Championship Chairman's Award Predictions

having met some people on 359 in jersey a couple of years ago, i really hope they win, they were totally awesome people, and their team is amazing. but i wouldnt be surprised at all if 1114 won. they have a great shot at winning WC and WCCA like 67 did a while back. im gonna be on the edge of my seat watching the webcast (sadface i cant go lol)

1 RCA at each of 48 regionals. 3 RCA at Michigan state champs. How do you get 50 total?

Unfortunately, 604 won't be attending due to a combination of California State Testing during champs, and AP testing immediately following.

Re: 2011 Championship Chairman's Award Predictions

I know 503's presentation group is REALLY good at what they do, they'll be able to woo the judges for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it go to somebody else.
I'd say 503 would be a pretty good bet but I don't know enough about the competition, so I can't really say.

Re: 2011 Championship Chairman's Award Predictions

1094 Channel Cats (River City Robots) of St. Charles County, Missouri are my favorites among teams I have worked with for many years. Their sustained efforts since 2003 have been critical to the growth of FIRST in the St. Louis region.

503 Frog Force are my favorites among teams I've seen at multiple events this season. Contagious enthusiasm, extreme creativity, and great presentation.

1114 Simbotics are simply the best FIRST team I've ever seen, anywhere, any season, for competitiveness and for inspiration.

I am very glad to be volunteering as a robot inspector, not a Chairman's Award judge. Those people will have their work cut out for them in St. Louis.

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.

Re: 2011 Championship Chairman's Award Predictions

For the teams not mentioned here, I'd say 2169 could be a surprise winner. Their production value in their presentation is superb and they have 3 RCAs under their belts.

I would like to think 166...

Re: 2011 Championship Chairman's Award Predictions

FRC 359's program is incredible. The amount of attention that they have brought to FIRST from the small state of Hawaii is awe-inspiring. From starting numerous other FRC, and FLL teams, to getting their Governor actively involved, bringing a regional to their State, and now reaching into Japan to extend the boundaries of FIRST. Watch their video and you can be nothing short of amazed. I would not be surprised to see the Hawaiian Kids on the stage Saturday afternoon.

Panther Robotics from FRC team 1108 has accomplished their wins in the most difficult way. Winners of Lone Star twice, but each of the other 4 wins are from a different regional. No other team can come close to this achievement.

If you weigh District Chairman's Awards the same as Regional Chairman's Awards and count the Michigan State Championships as the Great Lakes Regional, 503 has won a Chairman's at 5 different locations: Detroit Regional in 2005, West Michigan Regional in 2006 (District in 2009), Great Lakes Regional in 2007 (States in 2010 and 2011), the Ann Arbor District in 2010, and the Niles District in 2011.

359 has also won a CA in 4 different locations: New York in 2011, Hawaii in 2008 and 2009, Arizona in 2010, and Silicon Valley in 2003.

Re: 2011 Championship Chairman's Award Predictions

I would agree with either 359 or 1114, both are deserving, but having worked with 359 several times, got to say I hope the Hawaiian Kids get it!

I am so thrilled with my kids for earning the Chesapeake RCA, and hope to follow in the foot steps of those legendary Chairman's award winning teams.

One day .....
