FIRST Polls

This years competition LOGO MOTION the Red Alliance won 45 out of 59 competitions, the Blue Alliance won 14.
Is there something going on that would cause this or is it just the way it happen?

The Red Alliance has won the World Championship in 2006,7,8,9,and 2010 on the Einstein Field in Atlanta.
Which Alliance will win the Championship this year?

Re: FIRST Polls

This question has been asked before. The reason the red alliance normally wins is based purely on the fact that the red color always goes to the higher seeded alliance. Obviously the teams that attain a higher seed are normally going to do better than those who don't.

Re: FIRST Polls

In the NCAA basketball tournaments, the teams wearing lighter-colored jerseys also have an overwhelming majority of wins.

But does that still apply to Einstein, when in theory all the teams competing there are the same seed.

Mostly that is correct... the way that the bracket is set up, if the #1 seed gets upset, then a lower seed could be red in the finals.

ex: 8 beats 1 in quarters, 8 is then red against, lets say, 4. If 8 beats 4 in the semis, then 8 would be red in the finals. Thus, they would be a lower seed, but still be red.

Granted, the #1 seed wins a lot... so that is part of it.

Re: FIRST Polls

While I agree that it is 99% due to how the higher seeds start on red, there is research that shows that the color red increases aggression and thus can lead to better preformance in certain situations. There was a study done where they looked at wrestlers and found that those who wore red won stastistically significantly more matches than their opponents even though there was no difference between the wrestlers (unlike FIRST teams where the top seeds are in red).

Re: FIRST Polls

At the regional and CMP division level, red winning more is statistically indicative of the seeding algorithm working and putting the best teams at the #1 seed.

As for Einstein having a distribution skewed toward red, I think thats easily chalked up to a very small sample size. Theres only 9 matches per year, maximum, played on Einstein.
