Not quite yet approved, just recommended to be approved.
"The FDA isn’t bound by its advisers’ recommendations, but usually follows them - and it granted the iBOT a special fast-track review reserved for important new medical technology, meaning a decision could come in a few months."

I think the iBOT is cooler then the Segway.

Me too. I think the iBot should've got as much or more hype than the Segway. Seems a little more 'life changing' and revolutionary. Not that I'm saying the Segway isn't cool & neato .. I just think the iBot should've gotten more recognition.

I like the iBot more too, but riding around on one compared to a Segway is geekier, especialy if your not paralized.

Yeah...the iBOT does a bit of damage with that pricetag. I have a feeling about every wheelchair'd person will stick with their current mode of transportation. Maybe if the price ever drops to like $500, then it may be a bit more popular.

It's true that the Ibot is quite pricey, but the money required to retrofit a house to be liveble/accessable for a wheelchair-bound person would be at least that much. With the Ibot, you don't have to make so many modifications and you have the freedom to go places you've never gone before that the walking take for granted. Plus there is the added dignity of being able to talk to other people eye to eye that is priceless.

When I was a child I was restricted to a wheelchair for quite a while as reconstructive surgery was done on one of my legs. I can still remember the day I was finally allowed to at least get up and use crutches. I could go only a few inches at a time at first, but felt as if I were flying.

Spend a good week or two in a wheelchair without the use of your legs sometime (no cheating on anything! no walking period!).
Only then can anyone truly understand.

The iBot is revolutionary for our needs today. The Segway is for the future. I think the iBot should have gotten more attention. oh well.. what can you do. The Segway is pretty cool though.

This invention is meant for the needy...

Medicare will probabaly pay for a lot of the costs...

When my grandfather got his electric wheelchair Medicare paid for a lot...

You can spend next to nothing for one that is hand powered, or you can get this one if you REALLY need it (as in, nobody else is with you, so you have to reach things by yourself, etc.)

Last night on a Chicago news station, they had a story which featured the iBot, although I missed most of it (as I was channel surfing during the commercial of the Kings/Blues game), something was mentioned that its only available if your doctor "precribes" it to you, like medicine. The man they talked to said that his insurance comapny paid 85-90%-ish of his iBot so he could afford to have one. Also he mentioned that after his training, he wouldnt have to move out of his multi-floor house since it can climb his stairwells....

the iBot prevented this man from moving out of his house he bought when he was in his 30s, and that really made him happy.

I think thats pretty darn cool.

Newspaper...

Personally i think the IBOT is really cool, but i think the Segway is better because i can actual use a Segway.
