Respectful to other guests in your hotel

I am lying awake because there are FIRST kids running up and down the hall of our hotel and being rude. I've called security on them and yelled at them myself. I will find your team number tomorrow and I will call you out on here if this continues tomorrow night!

With that said....yes had to vent....

All other teams: If you are in a hotel remember to be respectful to the other guests. We are in a new city and we do not want to get a bad reputation. Once 9:00 pm hits, it's time to shush! If you can't handle that, then clearly you need more supervision or you need to just stay home.

And to other mentors:
I expect our kids to be respectful to other guests. If they are not, then they will have to deal with me. I expect our kids to be better than the average kid. I hope you feel the same!

Re: Respectful to other guests in your hotel

9 pm is kinda early dont ya think. I would say 1030 pm. We don't even have our team meeting till 10 pm.
BUT THAT BEING SAID, that is really disrespectful to be running up and down the hall causing a disturbance to other patrons of the hotel

Re: Respectful to other guests in your hotel

I believe when the OP mentioned 9pm, he meant that is the time to start being thoughtful about quiet time in the halls. We do not call lights out for our kids until 11pm but before then I am constantly reminding them to be quiet as other guests have long ago gone to bed.

I understand how it is to try to sleep when somebody is being inconsiderate. I've long had to deal with this at my apartment complex. If you've already reported it to the management at the hotel and confronted them yourself, what do you hope to gain from publicly outing them? They may be inconsiderate, but this should be dealt with internally. If they won't listen, you should take it up with their mentors. I, for one, have no ability to stop those kids from running in the halls. Honestly, you might accomplish in making them look bad. In the process, you will make yourself look bad too. If its worth it to you, go ahead and openly state their team number and see if it accomplishes your goals. I just hope that when you wake up in the morning(assuming you get to sleep) you realize that it simply isn't worth it.

Re: Respectful to other guests in your hotel

Hotel staff are always aware of the teams who are respectful of others and of the hotel property and purpose. They are always aware of the teams that are not respectful and there are usually consequences to be dealt with.

yes, i remember a few weeks ago when santosh and I ran into a unrully group of kids (surly not a FIRST team) running back and forth in the hall way like football players, rolling around the floor laughing, and one of the kids even close lined another.

Re: Respectful to other guests in your hotel

Ok, hopefully it has been dealt with. I fussed at them this morning and did tell one of their mentors...who had said they had already been warned about being loud. The hotel I am in will kick groups out in the middle of the night if that's what it takes to solve a problem. So please remember that!

And I know for teenagers, 9pm seems early, but think of parents with small kids...most of them have 8:00 bedtimes. Just remember others may like a full 8 hours of sleep...

I'm of the opinion that loud should never be accepted in an area that someone might sleep regardless of time of day. I greatly enjoy a nap and sometimes have weird hours with getting homework done. I might be asleep at 4pm. Just cause its not night, isn't a reason to be loud. Though I do believe the whole 9 pm to be early as a lights out, the noise shouldn't occur regardless of time.

Re: Respectful to other guests in your hotel

I know that I've posted this once before but when it comes to showing respect for the hotel and for the guests staying at the hotel, I'm often reminded of a hotel where we stayed. It was the mainstay for family and loved ones of gravely ill patients at a nearby hospital. It was also a place for the patients to stay while waiting for treatment and had to be near the hospital. All guests were asked to be quiet and respectful and there was a hall curfew set in place by the hotel that we were all asked to observe. It was a beautiful hotel with a delicious breakfast and some of us felt it was a privilege to be there. I did have to put a nerf football in timeout and have one or two quiet conversations with a couple of students on the first morning but, after that, everything went smoothly on our end of it and we were invited back each year. For me, it felt like a honor to be invited back.

I agree 100 percent. The running up and down the hall in a hotel is never acceptable, regardless of time. High school students should be perfectly capable of spending time in their rooms or in hotel common areas in an appropriate manner.

When I travel for work I often have to work 12hr shifts, 12on/12off if I work 6p-6a I am going to be sleeping midday, I expect there to be more noise than there would be at night (people checking in/out). But I don't expect running and/or screaming in the halls.

Only on ChiefDelphi could this thread spark controversy. Seriously, guys, it's not that hard. Don't be a-holes.

I'm missing something. Where's the controversy? As far as I can see, the posters in the thread are in agreement?

Controversy may not have been the right word. What I should've said is that only on CD would people feel the need to discuss the finer points of being considerate to people.

Re: Respectful to other guests in your hotel

It takes a village.
Doesn't matter which students were 'acting up' (in any way) I am not afraid to scold them. Politely, of course, but don't ignore me or there will be consequences.

I like to think our students are well-behaved but am not so naive to think they don't need a reminder every time.
