Resurrection, I know, but here's another one. Another special moment in a BMR unusually full of them.

I was there, and remember seeing that, but I had no idea they were using it as an example for alliance seedings too. That's adorable.

Re: Marriages

Fun thread (if somewhat an example of threadomancy)...

I'm not married to a FIRST-er, but I'm married to FIRST. The morning after my wedding to my lovely wife, I was on a bus headed to our local kickoff. It's all about priorities, you see...

Betsy Smith and Charles Baxter are alumni of team 1741. She is currently in her fourth year mentoring 1741, and he has mentored team 1747 with me for the past three years. Both are fantastic people and fantastic mentors. I really couldn't have seen this proposal go any other way.

It was kind of amusing when in Smoky Mountain, a 1741 student was being a VIP guide for Dean Kamen. He recognized the number, since they had won the Chairman's Award at BMR, and someone had mentioned to him that a member from that team had gotten engaged. He asked to meet Charlie and Betsy. Charlie was pretty ecstatic about that.

Snapped this outside kickoff a couple of years ago. Seems one of our alumni turned mentor delayed his honeymoon so he could be there.

Re: Marriages

At the Bayou Regional this year, an alumni/mentor of Team 364 Fusion proposed to his girlfriend during the award ceremony. They had been on the robotics team together in high school. The field crew helped him mask it as the "Continuing Partnership Award" and when she came down to accept it on the field, he got down on one knee. She told him that she "Graciously accepts". It wasn't my team, but it was one of the cutest things Team 1912 had ever seen.

Re: Marriages

My wife and I did not meet in FIRST, but we both went to Kettering University because of FIRST.

We met the first day of freshman orientation, during the math placement exam study session of all places. 3 weeks later we were dating...5 years later we were married.

I was on (and now mentor) team 85 (Built on Brains) and my wife was a founding member of team 1023 (Bedford Express). I overheard a conversation between a few of the students that said "our teams are married."

Re: Marriages

I got engaged this build season, but not to a FIRST'er. It was during the build season though, and I did have a slightly robotics-style 'spin' in the proposal.

We started thinking about a date for the wedding, and she threw out mid-April. Heh. I pushed for mid-May so we wound up with Mother's day next year. See the thing is -- while I have no problem skipping Championships for our wedding, I REALLY don't ever want to have to plan anniversaries around Championships. (Besides that, more things are in bloom during May)

How long will we have to wait for two married FIRSTers to have kids who compete in a FIRST program?
