Say "IT" aint so.

I heard today that NewYork has passed an ordinance prohibiting Segway from its side walks. I hope this is not true. I was amazed that they had moved so fast if true.
I was thinking today about some of the posts that have been writen and some that were made by me. Then I thought about a rhyme that I was told when I was a child, it went... "From little Acorns do Mighty Oak Trees Grow".
I didnt give Segway full consideration or any thought to the past or future. Thinking about the past it dawned on me when the first automobile was invented, It was called a Jallopy or an infernal contraption. It was considered so terrible and dangerous that laws were pased stating that a person had to walk 15' in front of the automobile for safety, Wow have we come a long way.
Then I got to thinking about the short term future, and suddenly realized that we cant go back in our thoughts and expressions.
My mother told me once that one door never closes unless another opens. If we look at the last 100 years we have experience the first flight of man, to mans first walk on the moon, AMAZING. Then if you look at every invention to date you then realize how many ideas other people got from the initial invention and then all the improvements as a spin off.
When NASA put their first craft into that first orbit of our lonely planet who would have imagined the space shuttle, Mars explorers the Hubble and Voyager I and II.
I think what im trying to say is on the surface of things we shouldnt Judge a book by the cover and that we should see what time and improvements will bring us, Never say Never.
Some of the ideas for its use have been very interesting and one of the most interesting was when travelers arrive in a central location they then need to get to their final destination but this could be in any part of the city. A passenger could rent the Segway at a central location using a C/C and ride to where he wants to go, then when he gets there the Segway returns to the nearest central location automaticaly through GPS and Satellites. Upon it arrival Segway would plug itself in to re-charge.
The passenger could then order a Segway using his cell phone to call a new rent. The Segway would get its orders to go to the passengers location again by the Satellite. Simple.
I see the first Segway improvement being collision detectors, this would stop the Segway from hitting a person or an object through sensors.. Dean will have to prove to the narrow minded neanderthals of the past that the future cant be Ordinanced.
I for one have changed my mind on Segway and Deans thinking, we should give it a chance, after all he spent 10 years of his life on this and Rome wasnt built in a day besides try and imagine the "Spin offs" over the next 10 years.

This is true. It will be interesting to see how "IT" develops over time. Right now, the Segway seems to be more of a novelty than anything else. It is entirely possible that, in IT's current form, IT may be nothing more. But, time has a way of changing ideas and perspectives. We may see nothing astounding from the Segway now, but 5, 10, 20, or even 30 years down the road, we could be looking at something that could really and truly change the world as we know it.
