Our robot geared the atwood and drill motor (in low) together to give an output shaft speed of 300 rpm. We then used a 2:1 chain drive to provide 150 rpm at the wheels which were 9" in diameter.
Speed in inches/minute can be calculated by multiplying the circumference of the wheel by the rpm. Further calculations would translate it into something meaningful like feet/second. The gearbox and this info is available in the white papers. Look for Dual Motor and Team 716. Other gearbox papers give the same type of information. Do not be afraid to do a little investigation (and calculation) on your own. The stuff you learn in FIRST is the real world application of the stuff you learn in school. |

We had two different gear ratios, in our drive boxes, last season: a 10:1 reduction for high-speed, and a 100:1 reduction for high-torque (I really hope I'm not wrong with these figures, that would be very embarassing...).
From the technical information about the Chiaphua motor, on page 5 of Team Update 3, and using a conservative estimate (the lower rpm listed [4,300rpm]), in high-speed mode, we had 430rpm at the wheels (with high-torque pulling in 43 whole rotations per minute). I ain't no mechanics expert, so if anything I am citing or calculating is wrong, please alert me to it immediately. |

I have no clue what our rpm was but i know in high gear our treds were flying and when our robot was on the stand we would run it wide open with out the treds touching in my opinion its sounded like a turbo diesel winding up.
Fords dont suck. The only thing thats more important to me then my ford is robotics and my girlfriend. |
