Classmate Dead

So, we had our classmate on today and drove the robot for about 5 minuets to look for things wrong with it, because we're going to monty madness this Saturday. We found something wrong, went off to fix it, and when we were done we go back to the classmate to test our fix and its just completely dead, it wont turn on, none of the lights come on, nothing.

Re: Classmate Dead

Okay... that's not as bad as I thought.

Based on the subject line I thought someone on your team had passed away.

Thats what I thought too! Perhaps you should make your thread titles a little less...um.....graphic....

Perhaps the classmate could be out of battery? Try taking the battery out and plugging it in to the charger. Then try to start it up the the battery OUT of the PC.

Re: Classmate Dead

I know this threads been dead a while, but our Classmate PC did the same thing, i probed the battery with a multimeter and the battery was at proper voltage. Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks

Re: Classmate Dead

Does the power indicator light beside the power plug come on at all?
Normally it should be a slow blinking green LED (it just means the battery is being charged).
There is also the power indicator on top, but from your brief note I infer that one isn't showing any sign of life.
No light usually means the battery isn't connecting to the Classmate properly and isn't being recognized by the Classmate.
Is it possible to test with a nearby team's Classmate battery?

Is the power connection loose or is the power connector inside the chassis out of alignment at all?

With the battery removed and the wall charger connected I assume the Classmate still cannot be turned on? (Don't bother looking for either of the battery LEDs to light.)

Do you get any lights on the Classmate's top bar at all (including the wireless, caps lock, num lock, disk, power, battery)?
If there are no lights whatsoever, then power from neither the battery nor the charger is making it's way into the Classmate.

Re: Classmate Dead

Thanks Mark, ill try what you said and try to determine the problem. I have a hunch it's the battery.

Re: Classmate Dead

Here are two other non-power related symptoms to look for if the power LED on top (immediately to the left of the battery LED) is coming on okay:
1) The screen never lights up even with the 2go logo. Power LED on top comes on when the Classmate is booted, and the caps lock and num lock will blink once or stay on (the cap/num lock LEDs don't mean anything other than that your keyboard is properly connected and is getting power).
Cause: No memory - check and reseat the memory card behind the access panel underneath the Classmate. It's the card on the right side of the compartment. It is connected via a card slot.
2) The 2go logo appears on the screen, but screen readout stops after listing a "Media test failure".
Cause: The disk-on-a-chip is disconnected. Check behind the access panel underneath the Classmate. It's the card screwed down on the left side of the compartment and is connected by a ribbon cable. There's a tiny black clamp that flips up to release and down to secure the ribbon cable.
