Why do we care how FIRST impacts learning? It's not shop class. The goal is always stated using the term "inspire", not the term "teach". Check out the FIRST mission statement:
Our mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
I think it's important to keep FIRST's most important award as the top point getter [in Fantasy FIRST]. It's help reinforce that the Chairman's award, Engineering Inspiration and Woodie Flowers award are actually important and FIRST is about more than just the robots.
