Actually don't worry too much about the spelling thing. People have too much time if they keep checking others' spelling. People should be able to win arguments just by having good reasons and proves... Tsk Tsk. I use microsoft Word all the time to double check spellings. Its a great way to help learn the correct ways to spell words... That and having done so many posts on this board. Practice make perfect. ![]() |

Anyway, I hate to sound redundant but I do think that proper spelling and grammar will aid in conveying your point of view. It's really distracting when you have to figure out what someone is trying to say, or if you're a nitpicky English person like me (hey, I was an English major for 6 weeks) and spelling and grammatical mistakes dirve you insane. Presentation is important in our world, why do you think lawyers dress in business suits in court? Even the most convincing lawyer may not be taken seriously no matter how intelligent his arguments are if he's wearing shorts and a t-shirt. So, JosephM, I think its really great that you're not afraid of voicing your opinions, but sometimes the way it may come across to some people may detract from your main point. This goes for everyone else too, I think this is how the "Should we bomb Iraq" thread got out of control. Much of the time it wasn't necessarily the the content that was offensive but the condescending tone and harsh diction. Wow, I can't believe I just analyzed the style of writing on CD boards, I really do need an English class again and no more science! Last edited by Kristina : 07-12-2002 at 20:45. |

I'm not sure if it was intentional, but you spelled Segway wrong in your picture caption, Joe.

since some people obviously have trouble with spelling (i'm not the greatest speller, but ususally i can use small words and just have silly typos [liek this
]), is there some random vB mod that adds some sort of spellchecker to the forum? if we had something that did that, then people could just spell check before they post, and there you have it, more people will have correct spelling. the only problem i see is that there would need to be some sort of "add word" feature, which i would assume run through brandon, similar to how the white papers function. if i have a new word the spell checker doesn't see, i hit a button, it goes into a list of words, then maybe once a week brandon gets email the list and has to check over it. not the best way to do it i'm sure, so post other ideas too, but hey, if we can't all spell, why not at least try to put a spell checker in? ![]() |

There's a vBulletin hack, that uses 'aspell'. I'll see how involved it is. I'm trying to only install hacks we REALLY REALLY need, as upgrading is a pain if there are alot of hacks to re-apply every time.
I'll get back to everybody on this --- |
