[FTC]: How many balls can fit in the off-field goal?

I heard on another thread that you can fit 4-6 balls, but i looked at the complete build guide and it looks like you can only fit one at a time.

if you are VERY careful I saw 9 today at our FTC workshop at VCU this morning. The more reasonable number is 4-5.

Re: [FTC]: How many balls can fit in the off-field goal?

Having trouble with this one.
Ball is 2.25" diameter and PVC pipe is 2" diameter. The sensor is sitting inside of the 2" PVC pipe. So it looks like anything more than one ball in the off-field goal is stacking balls inside of the 4" coupler from reading rule 2.4.2.4...

http://www.usfirst.org/sites/default...CTIONSEPT6.pdf

There is a (1x1-1/2") wooden post inside the goal 13-5/8" tall. The overall height of the goal is 17".

I'd say the cost of the goal is low enough to buy the parts and try it empirically (or you can stand in the aisle at Home Depot with racquetballs).

Well is that 4-5 within the actual goal or is that stacking outside?

Re: [FTC]: How many balls can fit in the off-field goal?

These are a couple of photos I took at the Illinois FTC kickoff of the off-field goal with a ball in it (here and here)

While people were able to place another 2-3, or even 4, balls on top by hand, you would need a well-designed mechanism for placing more balls in the off-field goal to have them stay in/on the goal.

Re: [FTC]: How many balls can fit in the off-field goal?

We've built the field, and you can fit in 3-4 balls relatively easily without risking them falling out. Five is possible, but it is unlikely that it won't just bounce out.
