Re: CAGE Match 2011
E-Mail Blast sent out to teams 10/5:
There are 24 teams registered for the 2011 CAGE Match. That means we’ll have eight full alliances in the elimination rounds. That’s awesome! I’d like to remind you of a few things and let you know about the other attending teams. 1. Schedule: Doors open Saturday at 7a, we hope to be cleared out by 7p. The full schedule can be found on the website. Setup will be Friday afternoon, starting at 3p; if you’re in the Indianapolis area and would like to set up early (5p-ish), let me know. We’d like to have some robots on hand to test the field as well – just drop me a note. 2. Concessions: We will have a concession stand comparable to that of years past. We strive to present a good selection of choices at fair prices. We thank you for patronizing our concessions. 3. Volunteers: The key to any great event is a strong group of volunteers. This year we’re doing our volunteer signups through the website. Possible positions include Scoring, Field Reset, Refereeing, and Queuing. 4. Rules: We will be playing the IRI rules, with a serpentine draft. Stu Bloom is our illustrious head ref; he can answer any questions you may have. 5. Registration: Remember that part of the registration is items to be given to the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana. One of the awards presented is based on the number of items each team brings. 6. Blood Drive: We will have a bloodmobile on site in the morning. Be ready to roll up your sleeve! 7. Scholarship: We are honored to offer the Art Anderson scholarship to current seniors. Please remind all team seniors to check out this opportunity. 8. Silent Auction: The scholarship is funded by the Silent Auction. We’re doing online donations; simply tell us what you intend to bring to the CAGE Match, and we’ll have the bidding papers ready. Please have all items registered by 10/10. 9. Carved Pumpkin Contest: Bring in a pre-carved pumpkin to compete against other teams. There will be a competition to find out which team brought the best pumpkin; voting is done via money wars. All proceeds from this will fund the scholarship. Competing Teams: 45 Technokats 234 Cyber Blue 292 PantherTech 461 Westside Boiler Invasion 829 Digital Goats 1018 RoboDevils 1024 Kil-A-Bytes 1501 Team THRUST 1529 CyberCards 1555 PULSE Robotics 1646 Boiler Precision Guessworks 1720 PhyXTGears 1741 Red Alert 1747 Harrison Boiler Robotics 1760 RoboTitans 2171 Robodogs 3176 Purple Precision 3180 Blaise of Glory 3266 Robots-R-Us* 3494 Quadrangles 3565 T.R.E.A.D.S.* 3940 CyberTooth*# 3947 The Last Crusaders*# (with the help of 1501) 4008 TRiscoH*# (with the help of 45) *first-time CAGE Match participant #2012 Rookie If there are any questions, comments, suggestions or concerns, please let me know. |

New Team Added
Anderson, Indiana has jumped into the mix. We're now at 25 teams.
Competing Teams: 45 Technokats 234 Cyber Blue 292 PantherTech 447 Team Roboto 461 Westside Boiler Invasion 829 Digital Goats 1018 RoboDevils 1024 Kil-A-Bytes 1501 Team THRUST 1529 CyberCards 1555 PULSE Robotics 1646 Boiler Precision Guessworks 1720 PhyXTGears 1741 Red Alert 1747 Harrison Boiler Robotics 1760 RoboTitans 2171 Robodogs 3176 Purple Precision 3180 Blaise of Glory 3266 Robots-R-Us 3494 Quadrangles 3565 T.R.E.A.D.S. 3940 CyberTooth 3947 The Last Crusaders (with the help of 1501) 4008 TRiscoH (with the help of 45) Assuming everybody shows up, this means we may be a bit inventive when it comes to alliance pairings, but too many teams is a good problem to have! |

Re: CAGE Match 2011
Email blast sent 10/11:
We’ve had an addition to the family – Team Roboto (447) will be competing in the CAGE Match. Some administrative notes before the Big Weekend: 1. Awards: We will have seven awards this year. 3 Champions, 3 Finalists, 1 Most Donated Items for the Ronald McDonald House. There will be no judges per se; however, be on the lookout for dignitaries and media personnel. 2. If you have an item or items you would like to donate to the Silent Auction, please have them entered in the website by Wednesday night. That way we can have the bid sheets pre-printed and have everything ready to go. 3. As in the past, your team will receive a free drink coupon for every 12-pack of Coca-Cola product you bring. 4. Doors will open Saturday at 7:00a; if your team would like to set up Friday, feel free to do so after 5:30. 5. CAGE Match is designed to be a platform to introduce people to the excitement and drama of robotics competitions. Feel free to bring any guests you wish; let me know if we need to supply any special accommodations. While not mandatory, rookie drive teams are encouraged. 6. Volunteers still needed; especially referees and scorers. This is your opportunity to work with the beautiful and talented Stu Bloom! If interested in refereeing, please contact Stu directly at indyfirstengineer@gmail.com. If there are any questions, comments, suggestions or concerns, please let me know. mstaylor@perryschools.org |

Re: CAGE Match 2011
One more call for volunteers!
Anyone who cares to try their hand at refereeing please contact me at IndyFIRSTengineer.AT.gmail.DOT.com. I could use one or two more and this would be a good opportunity for anyone who has wanted to give it a try. You will need to be familiar with the game rules (section 3 of the 2011 Game manual), modified by the IRI adjustments, detailed HERE |

Re: CAGE Match 2011
Goodness, gracious, I'm tired.
Fantastic volunteers, amazing parents, exciting and dramatic competition. Congratulations to the winning alliance of 234, 292, and 3180. Three teams that are, without a doubt, very easy to root for. Congratulations to the finalists and number one alliance, 447, 461, and 1760. We had a total of 24 teams compete, including three pre-rookies. As it turned out, each of the rookies was allied with its mentor-team for the event. It was cool seeing the two identical robots from 1501 and 45, and watching the drive teams interact with each other. Big congrats to Glenda Hernanadez from 45, the very deserving recipient of the inaugural Art Anderson scholarship. Thanks to 1741, who once again took home the trophy for most items for the Ronald McDonald House. Thanks to the parents of 829 and 1529 for working behind the scenes to create a great atmosphere. Thanks to 45, 234, and 1741 for helping set up and tear down. And of course to our event sponsors, AndyMark. True professionals in every sense of the word. If any of you have pictures or stories to share, please post them here or contact me! Last edited by Taylor : 15-10-2011 at 22:30. |

Re: CAGE Match 2011
An HP laptop power supply was apparently lent to Team 3940. It ended up going home with me. If someone on your team is missing one, send me a PM.
There were so many people attending for the first time. They won't realize how fantastically smoothly everything went this year. I don't really have a problem with that. I can't find words to express how much it means to have my father's memory celebrated so well. Just know that it is very much appreciated. |

Yes, I agree that things went smoothly minus a near disaster when myself and others had to start patching tubes with gaffers tape when the supply of usable tubes began to run dry... by the end of it, more tubes were popped than unpopped/patched. the white tubes in particular seemed to pop at an alarming rate... Otherwise, I would say it was the best CAGE ever run... |
