Extra-Life - 24 Hours of Gaming - EngiNERDs

The EngiNERDs are raising money and awareness for our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital, Hurley Medical Center in Flint, MI.

On Saturday, October 15, 2011, our Team will attempt to play video games for 24 hours straight in hopes that our friends, family, and community will support us with donations.

Donations are tax-deductible and 100 percent of your gift goes to help kids at Hurley Medical Center.

Extra-Life - EngiNERDs - Team 2337

To make an online donation, please search for one of the participants and then click the "Support This Participant" button on their page. Donations can only be made to individuals, but the total each participant raises goes toward our team goal.

Please help us meet our goal of $2,337. Every dollar helps.

To find out more information about Extra-Life check out www.extra-life.org or www.team2337.com/extra-life.html

Thank you for your time, support, and participation.

The event went really well. We raised $1,674 and we still have a few more donations that are coming in ($663 from our goal).

The EngiNERDs would like to extend a very sincere THANK YOU to everyone who helped support our efforts to raise funds for Children's Miracle Network at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. Our First Annual Extra Life gaming marathon raised over $1,600 for children and families in need, and without your assistance, it would not have been possible.

Our Extra Life gaming marathon was host to more than 50 students, mentors, friends, and family from four FIRST Robotics Teams, representing more than six schools.

Want to make a donation, but weren't able to prior to the gaming marathon? Extra Life is still open to accept donations, so please head over to our fundraising page (http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?...am&teamID=5413)
Thanks to team members from 33, 469, and 1684 for coming out, as well as donating.

As for next year we are definitely going to try and step it up, by getting more teams involved. If anyone would like additional information about it please feel free to contact me.

So let me get this straight. You raised nearly $2000 for charity by PLAYING VIDEO GAMES. That's awesome.

Games of Choice:

- Halo Reach
- Rock Band
- Euchre (for the mentors)

As for the Rock Band, one of our students (Jared) pledged to sing a song for every dollar that someone donated to him. He ended up singing 122 songs, needless to say we had plenty of music all night long.

It was like having a live rock band in the corner of the room as we played. I highly recommend this for future Extra-Life marathons. Someone will have to be sacrificed, but that's the price to pay...

Re: Extra-Life - 24 Hours of Gaming - EngiNERDs

Haha you should get in touch with someone from 1986, Team Titanium, and see if you can get some of their students and Titan, their Guitar Hero playing robot to come out for next time. Sounds like this is an amazing event for charity, and I wish there was something like it we could do over in the Midwest. Or, at least, Midwest like Kansas-Missouri area, since I suppose Michigan IS Midwest.

Re: Extra-Life - 24 Hours of Gaming - EngiNERDs

Wish we could have done this; I'm laying the groundwork for next year. As a guy who has followed the Extra Life movement personally, I've seen it grow so much, to where it has raised over a million dollars and counting to fight pediatric cancer this year. Really proud of the work Scott Adams has put into it, as well as the rest of the ExL team.

Even though 422 didn't do it this year, I encourage teams to get together and make this a joint charity event in 2012. All of your kids love video games, and it'd be a great environment for kids to hang out in without the stress in robotics competitions. Kids who aren't on the team but in the area also love video games, and it could help rope them into FIRST.

You don't have to be in Michigan to participate, people throughout the world have created Extra-Life teams.

I think it would be great to see more FRC teams participate with Extra-Life. If anyone creates a team for next years event you should use the following formate for your team name:

FRC #### - TeamName

(ex. FRC 2337 - EngiNERDs)

That way it will be easy for people to see all of the FIRST teams that are involved with the program, by searching for participants with the keyword "FRC".
