2002 Google Zeitgeist (most popular queries in bunches of categories)

The Google Zeitgeist is a page of google's most popular search terms for 2002. It's actually pretty interesting to see what people have been searching for.

For example, xbox made the top 10 tech searches, while ps2 or gamecube didn't. Die Another Day was #6 on top movies, while LotR came in at number 10 . Counter-Strike beats out all gaming queries except for the Sims, while the Simpsons are still the best (and most searched for) TV Show. The top image searches for women are hardly big suprises - Britney Spears and Shakira? Two fine singers. Pamela Anderson? A Great Actress. Anna Kournikova? psah! probably the best tennis player ever!

Anyways, the point is, go check it out.

I like the new Froogle section of Google.

Slashdot had an interview with Craig Silverstein, Director of Technology at Google, a while back (July 3rd, actually).

Google is just behind the National Security Agency on my list of places that might be most interesting at which to work.

These are the newest of search engines: Vivisimo, All The Web, and Wisenut. Vivisimo sorts by category, all the web sorts by pictures, web addresses, music files, etc., and wisenut sorts something similar to google. Take a look at them and see what you think. Just putting "GameCube" in the subject list could bring up about over 200,000 results. You can then minimize those results through the advanced options area.

Newsweek or Time (I think Newsweek) had an article about Google, how it got started, and what the work atmosphere is there. Nothing really about the technology, but an interesting read nevertheless.
