Re: College-supported FRC teams

171 (Cheese Curd Herd) works in a UW-Platteville (WI) building and mentored largely by students.

830 (Rat Pack) is mentored and sponsored by University of Michigan.

1306 (BadgerBOTS) is sponsored by University of Wisconsin, and probably mentored by students as well.

Milwaukee School of Engineering students mentor several Milwaukee area teams, and at least my old team (1675, UPS) was sponsored by them. I can't speak for the other teams in the area though.

EDIT: I can list a few more teams, but I'm not sure if we are discerning between "a school gives them money" and "students from the school mentor the students" or where the cut-off is. There is a team an hour or so away from Iowa State U, and they receive money from the school of engineering... do they count in this list?

Compiling....
  • 461, 1646, 1747, and *4272 are supported by Purdue University. Website.
Purdue also hosts a kickoff and the Boilermaker Regional. Website.
  • Team 125 actually meets at Northeastern University, we also hold a kickoff event and an off-season event called the Beantown Blitz. www.nutrons.com
  • 2783 used to and may still be sponsored by the JB speed school of Engineering (part of U of Louisville). They also have mentors who happen to be students or in one case, a professor.
  • 1018 used to and may still have Ivy Tech support
  • 2363 has been supported by ECPI in previous years, still waiting on confirmation this year.
  • Drexel University sponsors a team in Philly and 3929 is the closest to campus. We support teams via partnership with the Drexel Robotics Club.

*4272 will most likely be getting some mentors from PFP. They will also probably be getting some kind of support from Purdue. Nothing is for sure right now, but it appears they will also be supported in some way by Purdue.

Re: College-supported FRC teams

FRC 3504, Girls of Steel, is mentored and sponsored by the Field Robotics Center at Carnegie Mellon University. There is also a student org on campus that helps with the Pittsburgh Regional/Kickoff and runs a pre-season clinic.

Re: College-supported FRC teams

FRC 3612 - Springdale, Arkansas - is mentored by University of Arkansas College of Engineering professors and students.

FRC 3937 - Searcy, Arkansas - is sponsored by Harding Academy, the prep school on the campus of Harding University. The team will use the University's machine shop, etc.

FRC 3942 - Harrison, Arkansas - is a team with students from 19 small, rural schools that will meet at North Arkansas College.

FRC 3994 - Pine Bluff, Arkansas - made up of students from 4 area schools and the team will meet at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Center for Robotics Education Excellence.

FRC 4040 - Jonesboro, Arkansas - partially mentored by professors and students from Arkansas State University College of Engineering.

We have focused on university engineering programs and technical colleges as "homes" for Arkansas FIRST teams and are very excited about these partnerships. The colleges are looking for hands-on projects to keep their students interested and mentoring high school FRC teams seems to fit very well.

Wow, Meredith! You have indeed been lighting fires down there in AR!

Will one of the educational institutions mentioned above become host for an Ozark Regional?

Can you believe we have 8 FRC teams in Arkansas this year??? Not quite Michigan, but...

And we are currently working with the University of Arkansas to hold a 2013 Regional on their campus in Fayetteville, AR.

On the topic of the density in Michigan, the Upper Peninsula has 12 teams for 2012, but only ~300,000 people (1/10 of Arkansas's population).

Re: College-supported FRC teams

The Ohio State University supports:
677 - Columbus School for Girls
1014 - Dublin Robotics (Dublin City Schools)
1317 - Digital Fusion (a team of home school and kids from schools w/out FRC)
963 - South and East HS in Columbus (not sure whether 963 is surviving Columbus City Schools' FRC reorganization)
3591 - Westerville Robotics
4269 - St. Charles High School
And possibly one or two other of the new teams in Columbus this year.

OSU also hosts a kick-off and provides mentors, referees and judges for the Connect A Million Minds off-season competition in June. They also helped us with conducting training for the new 4-H/jcpenny sponsored teams this fall and are helping with our post-kickoff event to help all of the rookie teams get a kit bot with default code running on Saturday before they leave.
