Re: Question about returning basketballs
from the first arena image it looks like you're alliance is scoring on the far wall from your alliance station. the balls your opponets score come to your alliance's coral and your human players introduce back into your alliance's alley.

Re: Question about returning basketballs
According to the first image in The Arena section, correct. The game animation also supports this. All members of the Blue Alliance are on one side, and the members of the Red Alliance are on the other, and they stay there. Balls that you score go to your opponent's human players and are released into their alley.

Re: Question about returning basketballs
So the question becomes how do you think this will affect scoring? When one alliance scores, the other alliance has the potential to score those balls. Will it increase the score? Will it make scoring quickly less optimal? What do you guys think?

Re: Question about returning basketballs
Well, they can't directly score, they have to put the ball back in play (not throwing it until the last 30 seconds) from which it's still up to the robots picking it up and crossing the field to score it. Is that what you mean?

Re: Question about returning basketballs
I mean when the blue alliance scores, it puts balls in the red alley. Do you think that will make a significant difference?

Re: Question about returning basketballs
I think it's good. Imagine that instead of going to, as you put it, the Red team it instead goes to Blue. Blue just scored, so they got points AND control of the ball.
Most games don't work this way (sports and, in our case, Rebound Rumble) because that gives two perks to someone scoring. Because the ball goes to Red, they will likely want to put the ball back into play for a chance to score it for themselves. They could also choose to hold on to it for a while, if desired. It's like a flashback to Breakaway in 2010, where the goals were also opposite of your alliance station. In my opinion it's better, and keeps the game moving. |

Re: Question about returning basketballs
The way I see it:
Since the opposing alliance is required to take balls from the corral immediately and then each inbounder can only hold on to two balls at a time, you could be in a situation where if you score fast enough more than six balls are scored before any are inbounded. This would mean that the inbounders MUST put some balls into play regardless of whether or not their alliance can retrieve the balls right away, leaving them possibly where robots from their opposing alliance could get to them first and score them. This is a possibility if you can score fast enough to force this situation. With only 18 balls and the rule about carrying only up to 3 at a time, this may be extremely difficult, but it could happen! Only hole in this logic...what if the inbounders can juggle??? ![]() |

Re: Question about returning basketballs
Then they aren't holding the balls.

Re: Question about returning basketballs
[G31] states that Inbounders may hold a maximum of two balls, and the balls must be returned immediately upon arrival to the corral. Juggling the balls would break that rule.

Re: Question about returning basketballs
I'm rather glad of this new design. It breaks the large possibility if it were the opposite way of a 469-style 2010 repeat.

Re: Question about returning basketballs
Indeed... This means that some rapid scoring and floor ball pickup could result in a serious advantage in-game.

Re: Question about returning basketballs
But you have to work together with your alliance to score in multiple hoops in quick succession to make this viable.

Re: Question about returning basketballs
Indeed! Or not, if your opponent doesn't have a designated ball-distributor!
