Re: Kinect options
Like, multiple Kinects on the robot? Like more than one?
This is like having 39 wheel drive. One Kinect is more than enough for usefulness and giving a headache to programming. I suuuuppooooooosse you could have one facing forward and one facing back, or three pointing in all directions so you can have a true 360 degree view of the field. But no. That's just more complicated than it needs to be. Or that can be done in 6 weeks. People are still trying to figure out how to connect one Kinect to the cRIO. I don't think there needs to be a rule about it. Is there anything specific you had in mind or something??? |

Re: Kinect options
I think the limit is one Kinect during the autonomous time. I don't know that there is a rule against multiple Kinects on the robot though. You should know that the Kinect takes a lot of the USB bandwidth so if you want to use 2 you will want 2 USB controllers. The Kinect SDK does support at least 2 (not sure about more) on a computer. In fact the sample software that comes with the Kinect for Windows SDK has an option to select which Kinect to use.

Re: Kinect options
I have a different Kinect question, and this post seems like the right spot to post it.
Can you have a Kinect on your driver's station? Can you have a Kienct on your driver's station as well as your robot? |

Re: Kinect options
Good luck interfacing just one on board the robot.

Re: Kinect options
Has one figured out how to use the kinect to scan for objects like the balls or for the targets on the hoops?

Re: Kinect options
Looking at the examples in netbeans for the kinect, it doesnt seem very hard to program it to move the robot when you make certain movements.

Re: Kinect options
I know for a fact you can have a kinect on the actual robot, but there is no rule about the driver's station. That is a gray area, there is no mention in the rules so it is a possibility. The overall effectiveness of the distance between the hoops and the driver station is a concern for me. I'm uncertain of the range but if the hoops are indeed your target then range research is an idea, but if you have other plans then I again go back to the gray area regard. If this isn't helpful I apologize.

This states that the Kinect is allowed to communicate with the Operator Console (The Driver's station). I'm honestly not entirely sure what my intent was for placing a Kinect in the Driver's station. |
