2012 FRC Labview thumb drive doesn't work

Hi,

We just got our KOP today and I found the labview update thumbdrive and plugged it into my laptop and nothing happened. I tried to explore the thumb drive and my laptops doesn't show anything on it. Am I doing something wrong?

My license is about to expire and I need to renew it quickly!!
Is the update online? I've installed the online updates that I've found and Labview still says my license will expire is a week.

Thanks!!
Eric

We found our flashdrive to be very finicky as to how it was plugged in. It had to be just right, and it couldn't move at all for it to retain its connection. I'd start by double checking the drive is plugged in and your computer is recognising it.

Also, I think (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) that you could just download LV2011, use the serial number provided, and install the updates. I think that should also work...

The thumb drive for LV actually contains two volumes, one empty, and the other with an installer for the 2011 version of LV.

Please check for the existence of the other drive.

I tried to install LV on two systems today. On my XP laptop, it worked fine. On my Vista, nothing showed up on the drive. I was only able to see the one empty volume. Maybe try on another system.

we found that plugging USB flash drives into the USB hub first, and then plugging the hub into the classmate works much better.

Re: 2012 FRC Labview thumb drive doesn't work

I don't know if I have the correct flashdrive (im running windows 7) it's the green and white one that says 2012 image, E09. I plugged it into my computer, but no automatic execution starts. I can view the contents of the flashdrive, and it has the folders boot, EFI, and sources. It also has some documents outside of these three folders, bcdboot.exe, bootmgr, DPREP.INP, E09_2012_MASTER_09112011.wim, HIDESYSTEM.TXT, imagex.exe, RestoreDS.cmd.

I tried running both of the .exe files but they simply opened up cmds that immediately close and I can't see what they say. What is this thing and why is it giving me troubles?

That USB drive is used to reimage E09 laptops. You need to mount it during the BIOS launch if you intend to use it.

Re: 2012 FRC Labview thumb drive doesn't work

We got ours to work! I had to turn off autoplay in my control panel because my computer was thinking that I wanted to explore the thumb drive so it was "autoplaying" directly to the windows explorer. If you plug in the thumbdrive and don't see the option to select autorun with a labview icon next to it, try turning off autoplay. Good luck and thanks for all the resposes.

The correct USB drive used to install the National Instruments LabView and the FRC Tools is contained in a white and orange envelope that looks more like it contains a CD until you open it. The envelope is labeled "NI Software for FRC 2012". Inside is a very flat USB drive labeled NI LabView for FRC Software Install Drive.
