The alley is not impassable by the opposing. It is only opposing robots in the opponent's alley that you must avoid per <G28>. So if there are no opposing robots on your offensive side, you can quite safely and immediately retrieve any balls dropped out the feeder slot (keeping in mind human players may hold six in total).
Belts are a fine way of transferring power in a robot. Like chains, gears, drive shafts, viscous couplings or any other means of transmission they require some care and attention on you're part. But no one said this robot stuff was going to be a cake walk. - Andy A. [more]
