I have read the manual, but I can't find a rule that says a robot can't sit by the corral to shoot ball to the opposite side of the field. Does anyone know if this is in fact against the rules?

It's legal. We're doing it. And the corral is where the human players are. I think you mean the alley, where the balls come back into play.

For those trying to make long distance shots, keep in mind that from half court the shooting mechanism will have to be within 1/2 of a degree of accuracy. That is of course if you plan on making any shots.
