Re: Possible Frame Design

Only four CIMs are allowed in this year's game, you are using 8 in that design.

Re: Possible Frame Design

Looks heavy.
How will you be mounting bumpers?
How will you be tensioning chains?

Re: Possible Frame Design

Small wheel base might have north/south stability issues.

Also, 8 Cims are four too many. They could be replaced with a BB motor and CIM-U-Lator or omitted.

Re: Possible Frame Design

Your wheel base is pretty short for a long robot and it will be pretty difficult to get your Center of Gravity low with the amount of barrier clearance you have there. This would probably be a pretty tippy robot.

However, the idea is very good. Personally, I would push the macanums further out to increase the the wheel base, lower the middle wheel a bit and exchange the outer wheels for tiny unpowered ones.

Regards, Bryan

Re: Possible Frame Design

I know only 4 cims are allowed. The CAD models just had two per toughbox so i just left them. I will take into account the small wheel base thanks for the input!

Re: Possible Frame Design

I'm very concerned by the structure. What is the grey material your using in the frame?

Unless it's a ridiculous material, I predict that you'll have problems with the sides bending in/out of the robot.

This year only 4 cims allowed and you have eight.

What is the purpose of having four mecanum wheel and six other wheels.

If you only plan on having 1 CIM in each I would closely consider the Toughbox Nano for reduced weight over the standard Toughbox.

Edit: on second thought, you might consider direct-driving your Mecanum wheels from nano Toughboxes.

Some spacers/bracing in between each side plate will go a long way towards chassis rigidity and strength. Something like this: http://www.mcmaster.com/#cadinlnord/91780a075/=fu19e2
